Well here's the answer to why all the Pooches :)
looked so slow, This was posted on the site where I found the link to
the video:
"The reason the other cars look so slow is because they are.
That's the original Nurburgring in Germany.
Anyone with a few dollars can drive their street car around the famous
14 mile course. If you look at the cars that Hans Stuck is passing they
have a large number on them. that is their identifying number for their
session (not a racing number). There are no speed limits on the course.
You can also rent Porsches, Mercedes and Bmw's to drive around the
course.
They no longer use the orignal 14 mile course for racing. they built a
shorter and safer course for modern racing venues.
If you think that video was good, you need to find a copy of "IN CAR
956" Showcasing the late 80's GTP prototypes. Lots of great footage from
in car video of this track at over 200 MPH."
Cool stuff, thanks.
You have no such number on a pubilc day/session (touristfahren)
Again not true during touristfahren
It's still used for some racing (VLN and the 24hr race)
Great vid - but its _early_ 80's cars (1983?)
The GTR video was perhaps taken from, the qualifying session from the 24hr
race? http://adac.24h-rennen.de/
There are many different classes of car - hence why some are much slower,
and they're not all necessarily going flat out, some may be on in or out
laps
If you liked the video, perhaps you should go buy the DVD from
http://renn.tv/shop/ (or one of the others I think this ones out of stock
now) They do it for the love of it in their spare time and dont make a
single euro out of the business - every thing is ploughed back in to make
better videos available in the future

SuSE 9.2 Pro KDE 3.3.2a
BMW had the M3 GTR in 2003 for the Nrburgring 24hr if nothing else, cause I
was there. However it was a bit of an embarassment for them as they packed
the M3 GTRs radiators with dry ice prior to the race start which caused
broken oil lines and the cars had to stop on the very 1st lap, not getting
back out top do their 1st lap for a couple of hours
Bad memories maybe?

Neither were such enduro classics as Daytona, Sebring, the TT, Le Mans, etc.
Politics...or worse, *French* politics. (Sorry if I offended any
descendants of Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Montier--better known
as the Marquis de Lafayette--we are still grateful....)

Wow. Never realised how much noise the gearbox/power train really
makes. You can hardly hear the engine at high speeds.

If you think the noise is bad on that, check out this

Great vid where a 320i starts at the back and works his way through

That is one area we've not been exposed truthfully to I think.
I remember the BMW touring cars that ran in the AUssie Super Touring series
back in the mid 90's, they were schreechingly, painfully loud when the
incar camera was shown. I loved it. So whenever we get just the barest
hint of gear whine, like the tptcc mod's sound file, I tend to get
overenthused.
