NBC showed footage of them parading through the streets flashing victory
signs. Sick.

i just talked to my fiancee, who, although located here, in couthern
california, had to spend the entire day on lockdown at the middle school
where she works. all day in one room, not able to leave until just recently.
also, everyone else i know, didn't go into work, as their places of business
were shut down. this is affecting far more then we will ever comprehend. the
economic repucussions will be felt for decades. i just thank god no one i am
close to was in one of the attacked locations.

We cheered when we bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Video footage was on ABC, CNN, the BBC, and probably most others too.

Does that make it any better? Just shows that there's no m***high ground
to be claimed by the perpetrators.

It was different too. We were cheering the end of a brutal war as well
as victory.

Ah, no.  I think we cheered when they surrendered.  And also, the bombing of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved a ton of lives on both sides if we had to
invade Japan.  Don't forget, the US showed Japan on a remote island the Nuke
before this happened, and they would not surrender.  This is a whole
different thing, apples and oranges.

Well, not all Palestinians are created equal.  From
http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/europe/09/11/trade.centre.reaction/inde...

[begin quote]

Arafat said: "We are completely shocked. It's unbelievable. We completely
condemn this very dangerous attack, and I convey my condolences to the
American people, to the American president and to the American
administration, not only in my name but on behalf of the Palestinian
people."

But reaction from other Palestinian sources has been harsh.

Sheikh Yassin, leader of the Islamic militant group Hamas, said "no doubt
this is a result of injustice the U.S practices against the weak in the
world."

From Gaza, Islamic Jihad official Nafez Azzam said "what happened in the
United States today is a consequence of American policies in this region."

In the West Bank, Qais abu Leila, leader of the Democratic Front for the
Liberation of Palestine, denied any connection to the incident and said it
has always opposed "terror attacks on civilian targets, especially outside
the occupied territories."

I had concluded awhile ago that they're both ***s and they have to solve
their own problems.  In such a situation, 3rd parties can only try to get
both sides to talk peace.  If they won't, then you just have to stand back
and watch them kill each other.

I don't recall us being at war with Palestine.

That's news to me. As far as I know, we only detonated a test bomb in New
Mexico.  I was unaware that the Japanese ever had any kind of first hand
demonstration, before Hiroshima.  Of course after Hiroshima they didn't
surrender.  After Nagasaki, there was an attempted palace coup by those who
did not want to surrender.  So I don't agree with your details, but it's
clear the Japanese didn't want to surrender.

It's about as unprovoked an attack as you're going to get when a superpower
regularly interferes in the affairs of other nations.  In world affairs we
don't sit around peacefully harvesting flowers, but we also don't inflict
(likely) 10,000 civilian deaths in an urban center.  I don't remember even
the Kosovo bombings, which I was opposed to, having anywhere near that kind
of body count.

Agreed. I've been watching the news all day. I doubt that I will be directly
touched by this as I have no friends or relatives in the US. However, I
think that this indirectly affects everyone. Today is a dark day for the
whole world. My deepest condolences to anyone who has been directly affected
by these tragic and cowardly acts.

In the midst of anger, confusion and utter disbelief, I am reminded of
Isaiah 34:8

"For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to uphold
Zion's cause."

Those responsible will be punished, if not by man then absolutely by God.

Personally, from the P.O.V of an outsider looking in, you've really gotta
look at one of the constant themes behind these disgusting acts.

'religion'

Whether is be in the 'name of Allah' or the 'name of God' - how many
atrocities have been committed in 'his' name over the years?

Perhaps eliminating the basis of such fervent fanaticism would be a good
place to start....
