According to http://www.racesimcentral.net/
"Mullah Omar, the Taliban spiritual leader, condemns the attacks and denies
that Osama bin Laden, the Saudi millionaire who has been blamed for attacks
against U.S. interests and is believed to be in Afghanistan, was
responsible."

We must be careful not to jump to conclusions as to who is responsible.  In
many American's minds, this sort of action is grounds for invading another
country.  I think a lot of us are thinking "Pearl Harbor."

There is of course no death toll yet, but both of the main World Trade
Center towers have been destroyed, and I've heard they contain as many as
50,000 workers on a normal day.  Fortunately there was a time delay before
the buildings collapsed so some people were able to evacuate.  Still, I
would hazard a guess that a death toll of 10,000 is not unlikely, just
sticking fingers in the air.  Of course the Pentagon was hit also, and it,
fortunately, is not as tall a building.  The plane that crashed near
Pittsburgh may have been en route to Camp David, according to one passanger.
Lest I be guilty of spreading misinformation, feel free to glue yourselves
to the regular news sources.

The point is, it might be the worst high-tech terrorist act in human
history?  There have been plenty of bigger low-tech war crimes and
slaughters, all you need is a good machete for that.  But this really raises
the bar on the high-tech stuff.   It isn't going to be tolerated.  The
responsible parties are going to be brought to justice, whether that's a
team of 100 terrorists or an entire nation.  Of course, it's never an
"entire nation," it's always the regime running the show.

I am glad that your wife is ok and I hope that she is ok emotionally.  I
wish her and everyone else involved (so that is the USA as we are all
involved) my sympathies.

Do you have a credible news source for that?  I have trouble believing that
in general, although the law of human flexibility says that someone
somewhere has to be cheering.

A man who survived the current bombing and also the previous one was
interviewed on the news.  He said the people evacuating the World Trade
Centers were absolutely calm.

Let us not assume that this is about Israel vs. Palestine.  We have no
reason to believe that yet.  The USA has done all kinds of things in the
Middle East, and at this point we can't even assume that the terrorists are
from the Middle East, even though that's what we'd all first guess.

I think the military objective should be to destroy whatever organization or
regime is responsible for the acts.  Problem is, it could be one of those
elusive organizations that isn't identified with a particular country.  So
there won't necessarily be something to invade.

Wild Machiavellian cynical speculation dept.: what if the attacks were aided
and abetted by the drug trade?  Middle East is the patsy.  I'm just saying
we shouldn't be quick to point our fingers at "the enemy," since the USA has
made a lot of enemies.

I agree, but it's also the case that the Taliban's denials are
meaningless. They've made the same claims before.

We must not react to terrorism by giving the terrorists what they want.
While there certainly is an argument for modifying our Mid East polices,
this incident absolutely must not figure into that thinking.

This, of course, is assuming that this had anything to do with the Mid East.
I remember how quick we were to point fingers at Arab Americans when the
Murrah building blew up.  Right now we have no idea who did this or why.

I just heard on the news that the Mossad have gone on record saying
that the Palestinians weren't involved. If anyone would know this,
it's the Mossad.

They showed it on CNN (or ABC news, watch both today).
I thought it was tasteless to say the least.

My aunt works about 4 blocks from the WTC. She was getting out of the subway
station at 9:30 only to see a building on fire. She saw 7 people jump to
their death in just a few seconds, so she turned away, then she saw a low
flying plane, looked over, and it crashed into the second building. They all
ran north and she's ok. My little 6 year old cousin was attending school at
a private school in uptown Manhatten. She's tried to keep him from finding
out as of course he'd be afraid to go to sleep at night.

Thanks,
Alex

It's on video.  Pretty sick people, the woman and kids were cheering.  And
this is what they want the world to see and at the same time have the
world's support?  Morons

Yeah, its on tv. They were handed candy, told of the atrocity, and cheered
like a bunch of pussies. And here I felt bad for the ***ers when the jews
were pushing them around. They deserve what they get.
