Another perfect example of the media not knowing what they are talking
about, and everybody taking their ill-informed reports as gospel... :-)

Why do I get the impression that anyone with a differing view on
politics to you is a 'leftist/totalitarian' as far as you are concerned?

Nope I have differed with conservatives before but not around
here...most of  you are college age...unfortunately many have been
indoctrinated with the predominate viewpoint of the professors who
tend to be lovers of Marx and admireres of anything socialist.

Unless you actively fight the nonsense on campus you end up bringing
some of that nonsense back with you. You can guess how much fun I had
on campus....I dont take shit from Socialist professors. But in the
end they won and I stopped going...the straw that broke the back was
being forced to write an essay in English Lit about poor families and
the oppression they felt from business. Or some such, its been 30
years..

Yeah, I know what you mean, unfortunately.

So this means oil supply is and will remain unlimited? Please
enlighten us.

Timescales will always be off, but the principle remains and will hit
us hard sometime.

But why should we care anyway? This whole Indian "people don't inherit
the earth from their parents but borrow it from their children"
bullshit is so oldfashioned and leftwing, isn't it?  :)

So who indoctrinated you? College age, LOL. You wish!

Sadly, controlled fusion is still a long way off. And yes, you
can use fusion for bombs... H-bomb, anyone?

I think we should check all options before we bet our
collective arses on fission plants. I don't know if you were
around in may 1986 (?) when the one Russia blew up, it was
quite scary here in Europe.

I'll state my point again: if all that money would have flown
into the science of alternate energy sources (or even just
trying to *reduce* energy consumption for a change and not
increasing it all the time), we'd probably a lot further on the
road to a fission free culture. This stuff is just too
dangerous to let your kids play with it (quite figuratively
speaking).

Cheers & thanks for your clarification,

Uwe

So what you're saying is that intelligent and/or wise men tend to be
Socialists?

I need to start rethinking my political views I guess.  Being a
Libertarian must make me seem a mental lightweight to my peers.

You know, I bet if there were a nationwide poll done, drag queens
would score better than non-drag queens on it.  For that matter, I
also suspect you'd find a higher average IQ, and a higher average
education level.

I can only assume if you're stereotyping "social deviants" that you
don't regularly interact with any.  Besides, one of my best friends
who happens to be a crossdresser (and college graduate, etc) has been
working on Capitol Hill with Mr. Ridge the last 9 to 10 months. =)

That's hardly "controlled" fusion  :)   But more importantly: the "it
could be used for something bad" philosophy blocks more or less ANY
development so I don't think that's a very good approach. And not
realistic either: history time after time shows that what CAN be done,
WILL be done.

Well, *I* was around. Still glowing  ;)

Realistically spoken, it may be the only option. Lessening energy
requirements in the future is only a dream, it WON'T happen. Certainly
not as long as there is an imbalance between developed and
underdeveloped countries/areas.

So more energy really is the only way to go, whether we like it or
not. The world depends so much on an abundance of oil, that an
alternative would have to be extremely efficient. You can't just patch
up the "energy gap" with a collection of environmental friendly
alternative sources, no matter how much we would like to. And when
you're looking for a powerful, efficient energy source you will have
to go towards something nuclear. Chemical reactions can just produce
so much energy and not more. If you want to make a big step forward,
nuclear energy (fission/fusion) is physically speaking the only
alternative? (matter/antimatter combination would be even better <g>)

Fusion is the only longterm hope I guess... It might take a lot more
time to get it right. All the more reason to work on it NOW so it can
get in production when the oil reserves start to dry up.
