They're the wrong trousers Grommit, and they've gone wrong!
NOONE has yet to prove in any way that they have anything to do with the ozone
hole.
Sorry... Let me re-type. Destroying the ozone.
But, unless you can stop the volcanoes of the earth, which pump a gazillion
times more flourine into the air than all hte CFC production on earth, I
suspect our Freon is blameless and the ban is useless.
According to an article in the Wall Street Journal during the last 3 weeks,
this is exactly what people are claiming.

the price is well known among those of us who fix cars for a living.
THe lethality is stated by various warnings given by equipment manufacturers.
It can be absorbed through the skin, should it contact you in liquid form.
And, if it happens, it can be lethal.
Well, I've read the theories reported about it, and to be honest, they make
not a*** of sense, to someone who DOES have common sense.
I'm in control, I'm The Wagonmaster!

Proven? By whom? Yeah, yeah, I know, the theory sounds good, and plenty of
people like it. NOBODY has proven squat about the ozone hole.
It does? Really? WHo's proved it?
134a can be absorbed through the skin, according to the warnings given to
handlers.
No, the federal government has to prove the theory about CFC's. Something
they c an't do.
Not at all.
Yeah, weren't those cold fusion nuts up for a Nobel?

For detailed refutation of the theory that volcanoes are causing ozone
depletion, see our web site:
<URL:http://www.epa.gov/ozone/science/>
Read the myths vs. measurement pages, and then move on to the parts of the
ozone FAQ that will give you all the citations you could want.
Other pages off the main science page present an explanation of how CFCs
destroy ozone, and this is also discussed in the ozone FAQ. In addition,
there's a link from the science page to the 1994 Scientific Assessment of
Ozone Depletion, a consensus document that summarizes the findings of
nearly 300 of the world's top atmospheric researchers.
The proof is there; read away!

Gee, last time I rented a car, I gave it a good wax job and changed
the oil. Boy do I feel stupid!

There's a better way. Once you get rolling in reverse, pause in neutral
with the throttle wide open, engine on the rev limiter. Then and only
then is it appropriate to select first gear. Hope this helps.

I understand from my mechanic that it's trade name is COLD-12.
Yes, it is legal but you still need recovery equipment for it.
My mechanic also stated that FREON-12 is still available but the
cost is $2/oz. In the typical system needing 3 - 4 lbs of FREON,
your recharge cost will be $120 for the material plus the "EPA fee".
The total recharge cost was put at $400.
He did state that the cost for COLD-12 was much more resonable and
they expected to offer this alternative in 3 months.
