So the big question is that has anybody used these substitutes in a car
that requires freon? Are they available at your local auto parts store?

Unfortunately, when the semester starts, the pinheads will go back to
school with the normal people.
We will get a flurry of uneducated, brainless posts that justify
involuntary euthanasia on the first day of school, and then we will see
the ones with the some clue and politeness posting over the following months.
Sigh.

Agreed.
I don't know Martine personally so... not much I can say here. I've
probably said too much all ready in the wrong news group so I'll lay
off the stupid rental car tricks thread.

I was told that the patent on R-12 was about to expire so the patent
holder said it was no longer any good so now they can sell the new stuff
with a new patent.
Don't know if it is true but it came from a non-partial mechanic who had
no axe to grind. As for the EPA, I am sure they can be influenced

The only US product we get is the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee.
You mean a Yankie 4WD can't do what a japanese 4wd can do?
Says something about the American product.

How about this, drain all the oil out, and see how far the car can go.
Like a competition, for example take a toyota vs. a chevy. See which
car can get farther on no oil. Or better yet, in a six cylinder car,
take 4 cylinders out and see the 0-60 time. Boy this list can go on, I
appreciate the tips.

When did the Continental go to front wheel drive? I had a Continental
company car several years ago (what a BOAT!) and it was still a
rear-wheel drive car.
