I'm looking for an asphalt racing game. Not motocross or dirtbikes.

Something like SBK2001

Any links to reviews or discussions would be appreciated.

Get yourself GP500 it is imo the GPL of motorbike sims very nice physics
maybe not quite as good graphics as SBK2001 but not bad, but a very nice
game that takes a bit of learning.

Get them both (GP500 and SBK2001)... excellent bike games and two of the
best sims of recent times, IMO.

my 2cents Sorry Alex I do not agree SBK2001 is one hell on a road race-sim
but that only my subjective opinion abd you *must* have a good graphic card

What is SBK2001 and who makes it?  The K is confusing me, as I am
guessing SB = Superbike.

I am looking for a new racing game other than N4 and NFS:Porsche which
I love (both).  Something different to push the new system I built,
and use with the MS SW FF wheel I bought.

I have been unable to locate GPL, but I don't have the time for
another way serious sim.  Something that looks great and perhaps is
something besides an oval.

Thanks,

-pw

they "SHOULD" have written SB2k+1  Or SuperBike 2001.  It's just easier to
write SBK1 and mostly folks will know which sim they are talking
about...especially since the SB2000 was a little lite in the Sim Category.

SBK is the "official" abbreviation as used by the FIM and the organising
body (SBK Superbike International ltd.).

As you might have guessed Superbike is a road racing series featuring
motorcycles, more info here:

http://www.motonline.com/superbike/index.jhtml

SBK2001 is the latest Superbike simulation game by EA Sports and Milestone
(authors of the "Screamer" series games) and IMO a truly amazing sim.
Official site:

Maybe not exactly the right game to use with a wheel, but I know a lot of
people who do.

Two more games I can recommend are MBTR (Mercedes Benz Truck Racing) and
STCC2 (Swedish Touring Car Championship 2). Both have pretty good grahics
and offer a good challenge.

lol   just because I am right and the FIA is off base, it still
should have been SB2k+1.    After all we don't add trailing letters to other
acronyms.   Nasa isn't 'Nasagncy'
the NFL is 'NFLge'  etc isn't ....well you get the picture...
and EVEN if I'm wrong...when has that ever stopped me??????  :)

That's the thing with SBK2001... it is an awesome Superbike simulator and
has the BEST visuals so far, but what controller are you going to use in
full simulation mode?  In full simulation mode ("Real", the one above
"Pro"), the keyboard is too "twitchy" and will cause you too lose control of
the bike very easily.  The wheel is your only good option, a joystick just
doesn't feel right.  It's not like there are handle bar controllers on the
market (or are there?)

I realize you can't do a 360 w/ handle bars, but you can't do a
complete circle w/ a wheel either (close though).

I agree, the wheel is the closest option we have now.  I could program
the clutch and throttle into a couple of buttons on the wheel and not
use the pedals and it would be pretty close to a handle-bar
controller, no?

SBK=SuperBiKe.. Dont ask why cuz I have no idea..lol
There are plenty of new sims to try pw but if you are using a wheel
SBK2001 will not be for you. It plays much better with a joystick!
If you want to just relax & have fun in a sim then I guess Midtown
Madness {or is 2 out? } is ok. I guess?? You can't beat GPL tho'.
Once you start you'll be hooked! U'll see. Btw: try eBay to buy
one.. They have been selling alot there.. Good Luck!! Thom_j.
