I already have a PC and a PS2, the X-Box is just a waste of money.

Prolly going to get one myself though, I need a new DVD player as mine
is on the verge of blowing up, so it's either that or a PS2 and I've yet
to see a PS2 game I'd "desperately" want to play, same goes for XboX but
at least the XboX is sort of a "boxed PC" :-)

It looks good, and is still an inspiration (wrt graphics) for my Racer
game (that why I got the PS2).
And, I can play it on my couch in front of the TV. Race simming I do
behind my PC, just a quick hack & slash race I do on the PS2.
Actually, I mostly run GTA3 these days. I do have Stuntman as well,
but that's so frustrating it's barely fun.

It depends a bit on what your priorities in cash spending are. I find
the PS2 worth my money, even though the games are all targeted for a
bit of quick entertainment (I'd never dream of playing The Sims on a
PS2).

Yeah well, a slow boxed PC by now.
I never use the PS2 for DVD playing, although I have the remote. It's
too cumbersome to get into a menu, then to have to click the DVD. Yes
I'm lazy in that way. ;-)

I just want to throw the disc in, and PLAY! That's why I also never
play CD's in my DVD; it takes forever to recognize.

Yes, but it's still something I can relate to....:-), besides, I could
always install Linux on it

Good point I guess, buy a another cheap DVD player and to hell with the
consoles....worth thinking about I guess

I've got an Xbox and the DVD picture quality leaves a lot to be desired...

Both consoles absolutely suck compared to a nice progressive scan player.
Understandable given the cost difference but still an important
consideration if you like movies.  The amazing picture of progressive scan
player is a fine compliment to a digital TV.

Ok......but I assume that these 200 dollar DVD players you can get in
chain stores aren't progressive scan ?

I'm not a movie buff and I have a TV that was decent when it was new, 5
years ago :-) so I'm not investing a lot of money in this, for me it's
either a cheap DVD player or a console.....would you say that the
consoles' picture quality is a lot worse than a 200 dollar DVD player ?

Stop confusing me, I was all set on a new, cheap DVD player......:-)

How can you tell if you have a progressive scan player?
I have heard this mentioned before, but I do not see any thing about
progressive scan in the setup options in my dvd player.

That was my initial argument for getting one as well, but then people
start talking about poor picture quality and even though I'm not a movie
buff, this thing will be used mainly for playing DVD's with the
occasional mindless action game thrown in every now and then, I don't
*need* an XboX or a PS-2 as every game I really feel like playing is
available on the PC, but if the picture quality of these consoles match
that of a 200 dollar DVD player, then I'll be getting a console

Ok......we're now back in favor of getting a console...:-)

Remember that there are no such thing as HDTV in Europe yet, and we
also have the RGB connection which for mysterious reasons lack on
american tv's. The big question is if the X-box can put out DVD
picture in RGB ? The PS2 can't.
