The sim is in stores here. Maybe this is a new approach by software
makers? Don't let the *whole* world be your beta-testers, half the
world is sufficient... ;)
Well, it seems as if money doesn't come into the equation when you
consider hardware upgrades. Good for you. My next upgrades will be a
reasonably fast socket 7 processor (166 or 200 with overclocking
capability; Intel or AMD, haven't decided yet) and either an add-on 3D
card or a 2D/3D card. From what I see, Voodoo (1) cards yield stunning
results (at least if you're used to the performance of my system) up
to resolutions of 640x480 for a competitive price. I hope the prices
will drop some more after the holidays. A Voodoo card will run the now
current crop of games, and the new top titles will always be too
demanding for the hardware I own at a given point in time. I'm not
saying the 3DFX is the be-all, end-all 3D card - I just think it is a
reasonable upgrade if you have to choose between 3D cards and take
into account the current state of available games, drivers, and APIs.
It might well be that I buy the Elsa Victory Erazor (Riva 128 chipset)
anyway. It depends on the pricing relative to 3DFX and the development
of MS's "Direct something" APIs. I saved some money on my new modem by
not buying a brand I trust, but I'm paying with driver hassle for
this.
I can dream, can't I? How many games were great until you actually
installed them? And I have state-of-the-art hardware to run
"imagination-ware". :)
Oh, one thing: Randy, could you please configure your AOL newsreader
of a quoted passage. Makes it easier to figure out who you are
