If you have very fast CPU you can race with 5 AI all graphics option Max.
Hotlapping is ok with slower CPU. It's really good sim. GP3 is not out
before July(i think it's not out before September).

If you want the most modern F1 sim then yes, this one is worth it.

GP3 will be out late summer to early autumn it seems.

Yes.

Yes.

No one really knows. Supposedly the end of July, but they keep pushing the
date back.

So I guess "Yes" fits that concept.

OTH some more info could be helpful
F1-2000 appears to run like a dog (i.e. unplayable) on some systems,
especially dependant upon graphics cards.
There is a force feedback bug with the Guillemot wheel.
The physics are not as cutting edge as might have been hoped.
Despite the performance issues the graphics are not as state of art as some
more recent releases RC2000, SBK2000 & the forthcoming Rally Masters.
The AI appear quite well behaved.
Racing against the AI on a system capable of running it is quite fun.
Sound is pretty pathetic.

Personally (dare I say) I prefer GPL. However as a modern day F1 sim it is
probably king for a day. Whether it is worth 34 as a casual plaything
before GP3 is another matter.

Hopefully others here can expand on my limited findings to give a balanced
view. Then some form of opinion can be made as to whether to part with 34

Cheers

And Tony Rickard wrote a post in which he:

A. Ignores a fellow GPL fan club member's ONE word answers which preceded my
post, and which PREDICTABLY throw aside yet another excellent sim.

B. Thinks no one will notice that I was simply copying, and by doing so,
commenting on, Andrew's childish response to the originator of this thread.

Nice try Tony, but you and Andrew have once again proven the points myself
and others have been making lately about GPL'ers on this forum.

let's make that a definately maybe ;)

but here's some more:

the makers:
+ 2000 Season
+ nice Intro

the breakers:
- Terrible Track Accuracy - downright horrible
- worse selection of driving views .. only bumper cam is acceptable but a
tad low
- Pathetic Sound
- Controls are only tolerable with lots and lots of tweaking and fiddling
with the ini files - out of the box it simply doesn't work
- Frame rate (out of the box) is so bad it's unbelievable (that's on a
P3-500 with Voodoo3)
- Clueless AI
- Tiny driver heads ;-)
- No Telemetry
- No decent replay mode
- No decent Multiplayer mode... unsuitable for LAN or I-Net racing...worst
of all: no qualifying or practice in multiplayer
- The Menu Music is somewhat funny ... there's an orchestral piece so
pathetic it makes me think Leonardo di Caprio is sinking... oh, forgot there
are no wet races :-)

and last but not least::
=> it's not GPL (sorry David, couldn't resist)

Well David you had a choice:

Help out a fellow sim player with a valid question - Should he buy F1-2000

Or have yet another stab at your considered "GPL fan club"

You chose the latter.

As Andrew hadn't made the recent claim "I give newcomers advise which
encourages them to look at the positives of various sims, " I considered
your post the most ironic.

I guess it is a naive hope that knowledgeable members of this group could
get on with some constructive discussions and help rather than get embroiled
in arguments.

Let me indulge in one final opinion, which I hope you take the time to read:

The GPL fan club is not a collective group. I can only speak for myself. I
would LOVE a new racing sim that puts GPL on a dusty shelf. The day I bought
GPL I also bought Colin Mcrae Rally. Since that we have had RC2000 and Rally
Masters is due for release. Both of which I would argue have a place on the
rally sims HD. CMR blown away in all departments - graphics, physics, sound,
hardware support etc.

That is what I have come to expect & desire - top sims last a year or so, to
be blown away by the next generation.

Where is the RC2000 equivalent in the racing sim genre?

Hence the frustration as new sims come out - even if competent - that fail
to capture the imagination and demand to played at the expense of all that
has gone before it.

Maybe expectations are too high - perhaps the racing genre has matured
before the Rally sims & motorbike sims - such that a revolutionary product
is beyond current production.

I played F1GP so much - far more regularly than GPL - yet when Indycar came
out I switched immediately - for me it was a step forward. I am not so
engrossed with GPL that if a new sim comes out tomorrow which I think is
better I shan't drop GPL.

I don't believe the loyalty you perceive to Papyrus & GPL exists to the
extent you believe. I am as fickle & selfish as joe public when it comes to
computer games - probably more so cos I want the best & I want it now!

I don't necessarily expect you to agree with me David, but I hope it goes
someway to understanding why sometimes optimism turns to disappointment on
this group. There is a passion here for great products which can overide
rational discussion. F1-2000 is the classic case IMHO. The initial posts
were so optimistic - it was great etc. Then it turned out not to be so great
& the negative posts (sad ones like "It Sucks") were in abundance. Things
settle down & there are good and bad posts now.

It is not a case of being negative from the outset - just too damned
optimistic IMHO.

Cheers

Nonsense!
A total exaggeration! There have been several very positive posts about the
accuracy of some tracks.

The***pit view is perfect.

The sound is a realistic representation of a modern F1 engine. Do you ever
watch (and listen) to a Grand Prix these days?

Complete rubbish! It worked OOTB for me and my Ferrari FF wheel.

Again, nonsense.  It needs a little tweaking to get it right for your
system, but your comments are way over the top.

I don't have this problem.  Usually the only problem is on the first couple
of corners, which is normal for a race.

Like GPL?

I could list you a track-per-track argument on how unrealistic and very
poorly modeled the tracks in F1 2000 are.  Some of us mentionned that they
are the most rubbish in a racing title ever with a potential that big.
There is invented corners on some tracks, others have reversed elevation on
track portions, fake elevations, wrong corner radius, wrong track width,
wrong banking, reversed banking!!, and overall poor object placement.

This is pathetic...

Why is it that everytime somebody gives a negative position about a title,
the other person has to immediatly remark to him that GPL doesn't neither
have it.  Where in his message did you see that the person was praising
GPL's weather?  Why can't you assume it's a flaw for GPL?

For me it wouldn't be worth that price.  I suggest you wait a few.  It might
be the best one on the market yet, but it simply means it's the "best of the
worst".

You forgot the worst part of F1 2000 (which killed any sense of realism for
me) :

- The incredibly poor done tracks.

Hmm, based on what others have said here, sounds like it is well worth the
price to me.
Yes, I know , ain't got it yet, but do plan on picking it up this weekend.
