Dudes,
Please excuse me, I'm one of the few that has been happy with GP3.  I just
saw F1 2000 and F1 2000 Gold  at the store.

Could someone tell me the differences and which is the better buy?

Thanks!

Never heard of F1-2000 "Gold" - where are you at?  Perhaps F1 Championship
Season 2000 (F1CS2K) was re-labelled or something.  But if you're looking
for something new besides GP3, wait a month for F1-2001.  It will be worlds
ahead of F1-2000 - better framerate, GFX, multi-player, etc...

I'm not 100% sure, but I have seen F1 2000 re-released as one of EA's
"CD ROM Classics" with a gold banner on the bottom -- is THIS the
"gold" version you're referring to?  If so, it's exactly the same as
the original F1 2000.

If you can find it, F1 Championship Season 2000 is superior to F1 2000
in many ways (although they are both basically the same game).

Haven't heard of the Gold edition.  F1 Championship Season 2000 is the
better one.

I've already submitted an order for F1 2001 at the EA web page. It was
$29.95+SH.

Dudes,
OK, it seems one of the two boxes was the "Championship Season" version and
the other was Gold.  A search indicates that there is a 2001 season coming
out soon.  Will the wait be worth it?  Will I enjoy this sim as much as GP3?
How bad a deal its it to set up a car with out any telemetry?

If it were me, I'd wait a month for F1 2001.  I enjoy F1CS immensely, but it
could stand to be smoother, as well as having some other improvements.  F1
2001 should be the real deal - up to 4 times the framerates have been talked
about.  As far as GP3, well I can't say.  I only played that game a few
times - F1 2000 won me over, and then F1CS set the hook hard...

And about telemetry: Simon Philips (http://www.btinternet.com/~si.phi/)
puts out Replay Manager, which fills in what telemetry F1 2000 lacked.  If
the new game doesn't come with telemetry, I'm sure he will be working on an
updated version...

The F1 2000 you seen was probably F1 2000 Championship season (F1 2k with
some minor changes), and the F1 gold is the standard F1 2k.
F1 2kcs has some minor changes, like the first chicane at monza that had
changed during the 2000 season. I believe that all the helmets have the
correct colors also (M. Schumacher changed his helmet during season). It
also has some other changes. I would wait for F1 2001 though, it should be
out in a month or so. It's going to have many changes, like pitboard signs,
changable weather (like GP3), and all the 2001 cars :-).

Setups for CS are a piece of cake.  I go to blackhole motorsports and
dload Ian Bell's  setups.  He's missing one or two, but they suit me just
fine.   I tried Gregor's setups for CS and those were just as bad a his GPL
efforts.  How does that man stay on the road???

Eldred,
GP3 is pretty cheap, pick it up and check it out! I don't drive any of the
other sims for cars though I used to do IndyCar[CART whatever] in its forms.
I really like having the telemetry and find it useful for just about every
aspect of setting a car up. Gearing, spring rates, ride heights, these are
probably the items I look at most. After a car is drivable I find it useful
to evaluate laps. A look at the trace showing the cars speed with corners
taken differently makes it easier to decide at where to go fast and where
not to. Its not always intuitive to see these things in a sim[or in real
life] and if you apply different "lines" and strategies to corners, the
plots will show whether late braking or carrying speed in a certain area is
helping on that particular lap. This can be difficult to see just by looking
at lap times as you may have not been consistent throughout the rest of the
lap and the change will indicate a wrong result.

It works for the guys with real *** on the ground.

When I played GP2 I finally got around to using the packers
properly, at which point the ride height telemetry became
essential.  I spent happy hours deciding exactly which
corners I wanted 'soft', which 'skimming' and which ones
*** the packers, and then making sure that the front
hit before the rear...

[Does anyone know how I can make OE display in

Afsos dude,

For OE6: Tools -> Options -> Compose and set your fonts to Courier New.
