On to the game (these are disjointed, random thoughts). Well, 1st thing
that needs to be done is to get rid of all the driver assists. My god, it's
like you're not even driving. I was driving around Indy with the pedal to
the floor, just watching the scenery (which at Indy is non existant). Turn
off the assists and it feels like your in control of the car. There are
quite a few assists to turn off, about 10 or so. There's quite a bit that
can be customized in the game. 3 pages of graphic details, 1 page for
sound, 1 for driver assists. The game keeps track of records per track and
per driver profile. All the teams and drivers are there, and the cars
appear be the 2000 models. The heads are smallish (think they were
enalarged a bit), but drving in the***pit you don't notice it.
Phsyics seem pretty good, but I haven't been able to get up much speed and
into a comfort zone. Much smoother than SCGT, but not quite as fluid as
GPL. Frame rate... hmmm, haven't found an on screen display, but for me
it's not as good as it could be. When driving GPL by myself, you get a
sense of speed and level of fluidity (?) that's not as well represented
here. It doesn't feel as stiff as SCGT though, and that's a good thing.
Force Feedback? Ok, if they say so. Same as SCGT, you feel the curbs,
etc... but the wheel isn't weighted, so you need to keep the spring on (this
is done through the control panel for the LWFF).
My initial impression is that Image Space has done a good job. But that's a
very early impression.
Not related to the game itself but to F1... I don't like the Indy track at
all. I don't know, but it just doesn't say F1 to me. I wonder if Mr.
George is going to make a push for F1 drivers to compete in the Indy 500, by
giving them a taste of the oval. I don't know, but I can live without this
track.
