I know there have been many criticisms of this game so far in this NG. But
is it worth playing ? Anyone actually like the game ?

Loved GP2, can't wait for GP3, so will this keep me going until then ?

Rich.

I cant give you a very firm answer unfortunately.

At first blush I thought all the gripes were right and was ready to return
it.

But I tweaked and played, rinse lather repeat - and now have a pretty good
time of it.

AS far as the speed, I used a grpihcs file found here or at SIMRACINGNEWS in
the forums and now do about 19 - 20 at the start and can get as high as 30
if I drop back real far or pull ahead real far, but otherwise I stay around
20 or so maybe 15 if there a lot of activity.

the racing feels OK... I say OK becuase I have become acustomed to FF and
found that for racing it really adds to the game if dnoe well, nad here its
not worht having, the wrost part is not being able to "feel" when you are
getting loose and spinning.  I think FF could have added tons here.

It is a fun game solo, but the racing with the AI cranked is a rush and the
game overall feels good.  THere is a tweaking curve to be scaled and I think
that a lot of folks have their favorite sims and can jump in and play them
without any hassles, here you are going to get annoyed at first, then if you
work at it there seems to be a decent sim in there.

good luck, buy from EB, gie it a few days and you may find a gem.

ed

My problem is I dont know if I feel like spending my *** time tweaking
the sim to get it where I want it...  I will probably keep it becuase at $29
its a good buy.

I'm warming to it a lot more now that some graphics issues and AI speeds
have been sorted out.

I brought the game home yesterday is off my hard drive today you can fix
something that is fundamentally wrong, the driving model is all wrong the
car seems to have a pin in the middle of this center just to mention one of
the many shortfalls of this game.

If you have a copy of F1RS GIVE IT A TRY  you will have a better time with
it then with F12K in my opinion ; ).

Joel

It's too bad you don't like it.  I think the driving model
is pretty good.  It felt right the first time I tried it.
There are some controller issues and things that could be
improved, but, overall I think it's good.

I was never able to enjoy F1RS at all.  The car _really_
felt disconnected from the pavement.

For me, F1 2000 'feels' better in terms of handling
than everything else but GPL.

I haven't read too much about the controller issues. I bought the game as
soon as it came out on Friday and also am finding a few things that do not
seem quite right controller wise. I am using a LWFF and although it
calibrates everything ok I just feel that the gear changes are a little
flakey... I feel that I need to keep checking the display to make sure the
gear change I think I have made has actually been recognised. Don't have
this problem in any other sim just this one.

Is this what you are referring to or is there something else.

The FF is pretty poor also... unless someone has managed to find a way to
tweak this side of things.

I think you need to test drive a real formula one car... then maybe you will
know how well its driving model is.
But just so you know... formula one cars' center of gravity is in the center
of the car.  Now perhaps the effect you see is enhanced because you cannot
feel the effect of the cars center of gravity... thus the 'pin in the
middle' is a 'best guesstimate' of what it is supposed to be.

The centre of mass is nowhere near the geometric centre - the engine and
transmission are quite heavy! But the cars are balanced for fairly neutral
steer.
