Uh, neither is F12K, from discussions here...<g>

Agreed.  The lack of adjustable AI was pretty stupid...

Actually, having an easy track to drive on doesn't necessarily mean that making
setups would be easy.  Nascar games have about 90% ovals, but still not
everyone can make good stock car setups...

Ok - at least THIS is concrete.  You're comparing them to modern F1.  The
reason the cars in GPL don't behave as current Gran Prix cars is that there
isn't any aerodynamic downforce.  As a result, the power-to-weight ratio means
the cars will slide around.  If you're not willing to deal with that, then
fine.  Throw(or give) it away, and no hard feelings.

Of course not, don't be stupid.  I meant that the object is not to see how cool
or realistic the crashes look.
And you still didn't answer my question.  What didn't you like about the game?
Can you give example instead of just a blanket -  'it sucks'?

I think alot of people got a bit of a shock when they first
tried GPL.  I was preparing myself for a "GP2 with old cars" and
was some what surprised at how difficult it actually was.

I dismissed the advice (before I tried it) in the GPL manual
that indicates that everyone who trys GPL spins at first.  My
thought to this was "Maybe difficult for you mate!  This boy has
been around sims before though!"

It was quite maddening at first to spend hours spinning round,
crashing into everything, launching my car up every grass bank
in western europe and generally not going anywhere fast.

Something about GPL made me come back for more...and more.  I'm
glad it did because it gets better and better each day.

Hey 3_4  I've read you're not really getting into GPL.  Totally understandable.
The cars ARE a *** to drive, even when you do get used to the sim.  So, I'd
suggest you get the GPL 1.2 patch, then go to http://www.racesimcentral.net/
and get Alison Hine's Ferrari setups, which are extremely stable and easy to
drive, yet are still fast.  And if you still have trouble, trying running the
Trainer cars to get used to the tracks.  And finally, remember the old racing
term:  slow in equals fast out.  Good luck and good racing!

Not related to me in any way. All I can tell the poster, is he might
find comfort n the fact, that the vast majority of folks in the sim
racing community share his opinion of GPL. For some reason, the small
handful of people who actually own GPL, and have landed in R.A.S., think
their opinions have more value than the other 99% of sim racers.

I disagree. Now you can be proud _if_ you're able to win
a race. Heck, even finishing in the top 6 is an archievement...

So the "real" simracers don't race the most technically advanced racing
simulation and don't frequent the simracing newsgroup... that's pretty
weird.

Show me this silent majority or change your comment to "99% of people who
play racing games."

I see nowhere in my post where I used the word "real". If you are
going to make facts up as you go along, no meaningful discussion is
possible.

The "most technically advanced racing sim" is your opinion and not a
fact.

Given the pitiful sales figures for GPL, I think 99% might be bit
off. Probably closer to 99.9% of them took a look at the sim and did not
like what they found.

Dark and unattractive graphics, compatibility only with video gear 2
to 3 years old, overly exaggerated physics and a severe degree of
difficulty turned most folks off on the sim. Sorry.

Didn't know that. Can the Voodoo2 handle 1024x768 without a slowdown?

I'm not so concerned about the glitches here and there, but the
overall stale feel of the driving as compared to GPL.

I never saw Papyrus say the "wall magnet" effect was a glitch.
I think it worked just as they programmed it.  Did I miss that?

Joe, do you think there are any games out there that are junk?

Uh?  GPL is fully compatible with Voodoo cards, the Voodoo 3 is
currently available and the Voodoo 4/5 is not yet released (I
don't think so anyway?)!!

Eh well I said it can.  I didn't say it can without a slowdown ;)

But it can.. of course if you have a PC powerful enough to handle 1024x with
a Voodoo2.
