-<+>-
-<+>-Don't need to know anything else, that should be enough.  I was primarily
-<+>-interested in your graphics card and CPU speed.  Your CPU is definitely not
-<+>-the problem! ;)  You have a (Diamond?) Monster2 graphics card, which I
-<+>-believe is a 3Dfx Voodoo2 card, right?
Yep

-<+>- You've probably been through these  steps already, but just to be sure: when you start up GPL,
-<+>-select Options and then go to the graphics screen.  For 3D Accelerator, select 3Dfx.  I believe
-<+>-a single Voodoo2 only supports resolutions up to 800x600; set the
-<+>-resolution to that.
I am pretty sure I did that (and yep 800x600 is max for 1 card)

-<+>-  Given the speed of your CPU, you should also be able to
-<+>-turn on all of the graphics options.  Try the game with those settings.  If
-<+>-it looks pixelated and blocky, it's probably running in software rendering
-<+>-mode for some reason.  If it doesn't look pixelated, it's probably as simple
-<+>-as not liking this style of graphics.  Have you tried comparing the screens
-<+>-you're seeing against some screenshots on the web?  Failing that, are you
-<+>-able to capture some screenshots and upload them to a site somewhere for us
-<+>-to have a look at?
-<+>-S.
All graphics were on.  I did not compare them to any screen shots.  I will dig it out of the garbage
pail and try again.

OK

You said in an earlier post, and I quote "Sure, when you hit something you
see pieces fly, but the driving engine really sucks".

Maybe you could stop making yourself look an ass by backing up your confetti
spraying gunfire with a bit of qualification as to why the engine is so bad!

Hello DGF   ;-D

Btw, stop talking about graphics.  Talk about the game engine and it's
advanced physics.  What do you not like in it?

  Hi three,
You seem to have set off a fire storm.  GPL is a very demanding sim
to drive, very few folks can just jump in and fly around the tracks.
I would like you to help us understand your posiiton by rating
a few sims that YOU like.  Give us a quick hint of your tastes so we
can see where you are coming from. And then maybe point out a failing or
two of gpl's.  Do you dislike the sensitive handling?  Do you not
appreicate the way the tracks are presented...something like that.
Two points to remember about GPL's graphics:  one: the sim is two
years old, compared to some recent releases, it will indeed seem
somewhat plain.  But I think most of the users here have looked past
that to discover the sim underneath.
two: most papyrus made sims need to user to correctly install the
product and choose the proper video setup.  some folks have mistakenly
used the non3d software mode and have been very disapointed.
I'd be glad to work with you to figure out WHY gpl is so bad.  Maybe
we all missed something.

GPL doesn't support Z-buffering so even a single 8meg Voodoo2 card can
easily do 1024.

Well, when I first started the game up, I felt like I was driving a snow mobile.  Or maybe driving
on an Icy road.  That is just not right.

-<+>-> Could it be possible that this group has set GPL up for failure?

Ok that helps...remember you are driving a VERY powerful car on very
narrow HARD tires.  First thing.  between all shifts...let off the gas
for an instant...the autoclutch will do the rest.   Do you have a wheel
and pedals?

I think your last sentence sums it up best.  You would think by all the comments flying around I had
cursed someones mother, but in fact only posted comments about a game.  I really enjoy Nascar 3,
Nascar  2000 does not have the best game play, but has some nice eye candy.  Need for Speed 5
Porsche Unleashed is really great, although it does not drive exactly like any porsche I have been
in.  Nevertheless, it is an awesome game.  I also purchased F1 2000 which again in my opinion, rated
up there with GPL.  Granted I like stock car racing, and really dislike F1/Indy/CART, but I dont
think that has any effect on whether I like a game or not. (though it may have managed to have some
impact on my perception ofthe game)  I have managed to install the Nascar 3 and the graphics are
better than GPL (IMHO)   It would be nice if N3 had some better Eye Candy though.  As for the Tracks
in GPL, street racing pretty much takes all the fun out of it.  The car drives like it is a
rollerskate on an ice skating rink.  That is just not the way it should be.  When I think of Grand
Prix car I think "Road Magnet" not "slippery when moving."

Yup, I have the sidewinder Force feedback w/ pedals.  It works great in Nascar 3 and Nascar 2000,
and function in F1 2000, but that game is not a very good one either.

When I think of Grand Prix car I think "Road Magnet" not "slippery when
moving."

Well, without any down  force there's nothing to make it stick.  You really
should know what you're driving before you call it wrong.  You may not like
it, but it doesn't make it inaccurate.  Do you see any wings on the GPL
cars?  So how do you expect them to handle?  What the hell do you think
makes a "road magnet" magical forces or down force?  This is the problem
with uninformed critics, they mistake a well modeled feature is a flaw.

I dont think I ever said it was inaccurate.  I said it was a pile of junk.  If that is how those
cars really handle, I would not drive one.  I am sure no one in here can say 100% for sure, "yep it
handles exactly like that"  Yes it is true the wings and wide tires and such create the "Road
Magnet" effect.  You know what they say about opinions.... something about stinking, and everyone
has one.

Your problem 3, is that you "think" you know how a 1967 Grand Prix car handles -
BUT you don't really know, do you?  Most GPL enthusiasts are pretty familiar with
the 1967 Formula One Season and have stayed up late many nights catching whatever
footage they could find on the TV just to get a feeling for how it really was.

You see - these cars do indeed break loose very easily, but it does not
necessarily mean that you can't go very fast without sliding the ass around every
corner to do it.  It takes a lot of practice.  Something it appears you weren't
willing to invest.

I am not the one with the problem.  All you wacko GPL people are. I never claimed to be a GP expert.
I know how that car drives about as much as anyone else in this group does.  You are correct, I am
not willing to invest my time in a game which I do not find entertaining.  If you would do that, you
obviously need to get something of value in your life besides a computer.  Life is too short to
waste it on racing sims you find not to be fun.

Well you are right and that is one reason I stopped playing GPL since it
took just too much time to stay up on the game.  It is a great game tho,
much better then any other game I have played in a long time.  I do prefer
games that are a little easier to pick back up myself.  I do not think that
the guys who are still playing as wacko.  I will say on thing tho after
playing GPL I find it hard to play any of the Nascar series.  To me they do
not come close in physics.  I have been playing a lot of SCGT.  It does
have drawbacks, but overall its a game that I enjoy since I race a sedan,
and I can pick the game up and be running back to my old form in 10 to 15
minutes after being away from it for a week.
