Life is too short to

Ah.... the "get a life" troll excuse.

So you personally have nothing in life you admire, or enjoy doing ? What's
wrong with Y person who personally enjoy such a thing as a past-time? You
don't have any recreational activity you do? Anything where you actually
take time that the above sentence would quality you as having no life?

Actually, how the heck do you -get- a life?

> > Nope, it can't.  You need an SLI setup for Vs. to do 1024.

> Yes, it can.

How?  Mine couldn't, and both the box and the 3DFX web site say that it
takes an SLI setup to get 1024.  Is there some hack or tweak that does this?
I'm interested, since I'm holding onto one of my old V2s so I can use glide
down the line someday when I go to a non-3dfx primary card.

Thanks.

ymenard responded...

And that's the bottom line on this whole deal.  If I had the same amount of
patience my son has, I would have bagged this game the 7th time I spun off
the outer loop at the Glen in my first crack at it.  I would have decided
(like my son did) that this game isn't for me.  To 3_4_me though, "not for
me" means the same thing as "pile of junk".

And do you have GPL v1.2? FF doesn't work with the original version.
And even if you have, check in core.ini (in the main GPL directory)
that FF is enabled.

Right, if you want to do 180, get into the car you're most comfortable
with (or "least uncomfortable" might be best... the Eagle is usually a
good bet), leave the setup as default, and do a slow recce lap,
probably never above third gear, learning the circuit. In any case,
your tyres are cold when you start, so a banzai lap isn't on. Do a few
more laps, gradually increasing speed, and learning braking distances
and apexes etc.

Now, once your "comfortable" (a relative term in GPL), set yourself up
for a blast. Come out of the Parabolica (the last corner, a r-h
hairpin) in second. Once you're straight, really give it some wellie
and change up through the gears. Assuming you can keep it on line,
you'll be doing 180+ by the end of the straight. Fun, isn't it?

When I think of Grand
You are driving a 1967 grand prix car. They have very small profiled tires
that last for a few races so they are hard as a rock. (in fact hard as a '67
Firestone) They don't offer a lot of grip. There is no downforce at all and
the cars have 400bhp and soft suspensions. Imagine yourself in a Fiat Panda
with a 400bhp engine and rear wheel drive. Yes they feel like you are
driving on ice. Braking isn't good either, but it just wasn't good in those
days. It is hard and very frustrating in the beginning, I didn't like it at
first either but once you get into the community and start sharing setups
and stuff, and once you get close to 1.30 at Monza you WILL get ***ed to
it. GPL is the only game that learned me how to handle a car correctly. It
simply feels how a car should feel.
Beleive me, you should get into it. There is no reason for shouting a
eachother. I was once in the same position as you where but now I'm an
***.
So there are to options: 1: get rid of gpl now and don't look back or 2: get
into it and get ***ed, thinking to yourself how glad you are you can
drive the best sim because you gave yourself time to get into it.
If you give it a long tial period you'll start loving it, I'm sure of it.
Read some books about how to drive a racecar (it's the only game that is so
realistic that it helps when you read those) rent the movie "Grand Prix" and
you're on your way.
I don't wan't you to miss the joy of gpl.

  Damn Bruce,
I had to scroll waaaaay up the thread to see which Dave you were
replying too...almost wore out my mouse wheel...hehe, then I go back to
your message and the quote is just below the window I had opened...doh!
:)
I always thought Papy graphics were somewhat bland compared to certain
products out there, but i realised the tradeoff between eye-pizazz and
frame-rate was worth it...Probably ICR2 and N2 did a-lot to color my
judgement cuz I was one of the last to get a Rendition card so my poor
system only produced fuzzy 320x200 screens.

Never had problem on my old PC getting the resolution up to 1024x768 with my
Voodoo2 8meg.  No SLI.  GPL doesn't use Z-buffering, so it can do a
resolution higher than the maximum.  No hack, simply take the resolution in
the GPL option screen ;)

So you're thinking of a GPL-era car in terms of a modern car? Are you
related to that 2_slow guy? That probably goes some way to explaining
why you're not enjoying it. But just try to say *why* you don't like it,
instead of saying simply "It's not right" or "It sucks".

That's my sentiments exactly.  Saying the game is "not for you" is fine,
however, calling it a pile of junk because it's not for you is ridiculous.
This game isn't for everyone, fair enough.  Just don't bash it because you
can't drive it.
