It's mind boggling the money being spent in F1 and how simple it would
have been for Michelin to send an engineer to the Indy 500 to inspect
the track.   F1 is so self important, it's likely that nobody in the F1
circus even WATCHED the 500 to know the track had changed.

Except Bridgestone who supplies IRL tires.....

LOL! 4 in front and 1 behind?

F1 is rubbish anyway. F1 races normally bore me to sleep, that's when I
can be arsed to watch. But all the controversy surrounding this event
actually made me tune in and stay awake!

So come on F1, let's have more ***-ups.

Easy to say with hindsight, but of course I agree they should have known.

The fans who buy tickets and merchandise do NOT "keep the sport alive.
Television coverage, and the mega-bucks that flow to FOCA, is what funds F1.

And it ceased to be a "sport", per se, many years ago.

Bruce.

I heard that at a tire test at Indy, Michelin didn't send any major teams to
do a test.

If F1 goes back at all to the US next year, California would be a good idea,
being just about as far away from Indianapolis as possible! Heck, how about
Alaska or Hawaii? ;-)

Not sure that the current LBGP layout is up to the minimum length required
to hold an F1 race though, so modifications may be required...

I would love to see F1 stage a race at Elkart Lake ("Road America").

Good luck on both Long Beach or Road America - I think F1 has pissed off enough people not just in Indy, but in America, to burn that bridge for a while.

While Road America would be a great facility for an F1 race, it will never happen.  Too far from metropolitan areas to make the insane money F1 requires.

I guess that depends on the definition of major.  They didn't send McLaren or Renault.  They did send Sauber and BAR.

I would argue that BAR are a major team - 2nd in the championship last
season, and part owned by Honda.

I could be wrong but I think they tested their Indy-spec tires at
Imola, after all the track was in oval configuration until a week or so
ago.  However Bridgstone learned something at the 500.

However nothing prevented Michelin from buying a ticket to the 500 for
their engineers.....
