Exactly, and it's happened before in Michelin's favour. It's not hard to see
that it's not in the best interests of the sport to have this type of
disagreement. What's good for F1 is good for Ferrari, but what's good for
Ferrari (or any one team) isn't always best for F1.

Maybe this will get the tire war back to more even ground.  This may force
Michelin to build tires with a bit of room to spare for this kind of thing.

Michelin have single handily screwed F1. It's clear what they want. A single
tyre supplier to all teams..Michelin.Most likely they will now form a
breakaway Formula 1 Championship that they can control. This whole fiasco
could possibly be a stunt designed by Michelin to  further their interests.
Whatever the outcome, it seems obvious that the U.S. won't want any part of
Formula 1 for quite some time to come.
Shit, this whole thing reeks of EU politics transferred to the race track.

The comparison is only valid in the respect that the EU, like
F1 (and most other human endeavours), is a complex mess of
self-interest and the need for cooperation. Looking at what
happened, it seems to me that everyone tried to use the rules to
their competitive advantage.

Nothing new there then. I feel sorry for the spectators, but F1
in the US was always a waste of effort if you ask me, especially
on that track. Fortunately Bernie rarely asks for my advice :-)

I was in shock. A friend of mine got tickets to the weekend as a
birthday present and flew up from Texas to attend his first live race
and this BS happened today. I'm at a complete loss.

Ditto.  I know a guy from California who flew up the night before (!) race
day.  He had access to tickets and pit passes and decided to go.

Tricky situation for the FIA and teams.  When Sauber's wings fell off at
Brazil, should they have installed a chicane to slow *all* the teams down,
even the ones which built a strong enough wing?  The situation was unique
only because 14 cars were running unsafe equipment, but I am not sure I am
happy with the precedent which would be set if they were to make changes to
suit teams which had not done their homework.

I was idly wondering if , now that relations may be soured
between Tony G and F1, and bearing in mind that our ex champ car
survivors now own the Long Beach race organising group, maybe ..
Long Beach Grand Prix?  .. But then Bernie never credits me either.
