ideas for Mods for F1 2001

I've had a few ideas for mods and was wondering if anyone was working on
them or wanted to have a go... I'm useless at creating stuff like that.

I'd like to see a Touring Car mod.. I know we have the GT2 mode, but I'd
rather see something like the Toca cars (I know Codemasters are releasing a
new TC game) as they are more likely to be cars I'd drive myself... I can't
afford a Porsche or Ferrari, but I can afford a Ford (I already have 2 of
them) or a Vauxhall/Opel/GM, or a Renault, Peugeot, Audi and so forth.

What I'd really like to see is an Aussie TC mod... ya know the V8 ones. I've
been watching highlights on Sky of them, and the races really remind me of
how UK touring cars used to be (When it was actually good), gritty, close
and lots of bumping and pushing and crashing.

And of course I'd love to see all these cars racing around Laguna Seca...
I've yet to play a decent version of this track... Gran Turismo 2 on the PSX
did a pretty good version.... but most games totally ignore the fact that
the chicane round the back drops down a hell of a lot and is not A FLAT
SECTION OF TRACK.... I ask you.. some games have made this section flat...
completely flat... it's not ***ing flat you gimps. Sorry for the rant, but
it get's my back up.. LS is one of my fave tracks... and I want to race F1
or Touring cars around it.   :o)

Well, there are 2 V8 touring car games coming soon from EA & Codemasters
respectively.  I think that they may only be available in Australia but you
might be able to get them off the 'net.  Us Aussies have known the joy of
this racing series for many years - it's great to see it getting coverage on
the overseas cable channels.  I went and saw them live at the Gold Coast
IndyCar race a couple of years ago.  I was expecting them to seem a bit ***
after watching the IndyCars but I walked away just as impressed as I was
with the open-wheelers.  When they had the support race at the Melbourne
F1GP this year, apparently most of the F1 engineers came out of their pits
to watch them - they really are that impressive.

There are already several mods that might fit your bill for Nascar Heat.
Heat has alterable physics as well so you won't be dragging 2.5 ton WC car
around.  They have just released a beta of the Aussie V8 cars, they already
have a DTM mod,,,although it doesn't have a tidy installer yet, and there is
a BTCC paint patch for DTM, we are hoping the BTCC guys will finish the mod
with front wheel drive & 2.0 litre cars.
Mods are allllll over these days.

There is a promising V8 mod here
<http://australiansimracing.racesim.net/main.html>
Not much action for a while though :-(

Hey what about Laguna Seca in ICR2? How did that compare?

I'm not sure what ICR2 is. The Laguna Seca track in Newman Hauus Racing for
the PSX wasn't so bad.

What is ICR2???  ONly the GrandDaddy of all 3d racing sims, that's all.
ICR2 stands for Indy Car Racing 2 and shortly after it's release it featured
a 3d patch that enabled owners of Rendition Verite` 3d cards to run about
half the tracks in 3d.  Frame rate jumps were almost 100% faster, full
screen edge anti Aliasing...Cleanest looking sim until the V5 showed up.
Here endeth the lesson.

Yeah, its been like that since the days of the Adelaide GP's.  As soon as
the Aussie V8's hit the track, it was down tools and hang off the fence.
Must be something about the sound of a V8 at full noise!!! :o)

Dave,

You got to admit it sure is fun to read posts from someone who has only
seen 3 playstation games get on here and tell everyone "all the ones he has
seen... blah blah blah"  .

  < Snip >

Rumor has it that a sim developer must pay Bernie E.
$10 million for a license to use F1 drivers and cars in
a sim, and another $5 million for rights to have fully
implemented on-line play.

F1 sims have on-line play, but users tell us that only
about 4 drivers can race on-line at a time.  I'm not sure
what happens when this limit is pushed, but it must be
something bad.

   I started playing on-line last December, NFS/Porsche.
There is NOTHING like racing against real human beings.
I don't care how good a sim's AI might be, I want to
compete with real people from around the world.

I purchased NASCAR Heat, which allows many (20+?)
drivers to compete on-line, for their DTM (Mercedes,
Opals and Alfas on road courses) mod.  But I can't make
their racing schedule.  My Friday and Saturday nights
are for my friends to come over and take turns with
NFS/Porsche sprints.  So I can't compete in this series
which runs Friday nights.  I hope they add a mid-week,
or mid-day weekend (U.S. PST) session.

I purchased F1-2001 yesterday, and will install it
this week sometime.

What we have is F1-2001 with the best physics, and
non-F1 titles with the best competition.

It's a tough call, but I'm more interested in mods
for sims with good on-line play.

Wouldn't it be better to put efforts into modifying
non-F1 titles like NASCAR heat or NASCAR 2002?

Hey I've been playing computer games since the late 70's. I've owned most
kinds of computers and consoles. Just because someone doesn't recognise an
acronym doesn't make them some kind of noob.

I've probably seen or played most of the mainstream racing games  in the
last 20 years, but you also have to remember that here in the UK we don't
get a lot of coverage of Indy Cart games, we tend to find driving around an
oval boring and uninteresting. :OT

An example of how much I play games would be to explain that when I sold my
PSX last summer I had over 90 games, 20 memory cards, 6 dual shock pads,
recoil gun, wheel and a ton of other accessories. For my PC I've got in the
region of 200 games, FF Joysticks, Rumble Pad and a ton of other
accessories.

I may be newish to this group, but I've been playing racing games on
computers for over 20 years... Maybe I've got more experience with consoles,
but until recently consoles had the edge when it came to racing games.... I
played most of my racing games on consoles with a huge TV screen and full
home theatre sound, and left the PC for strategy, FPS and so on... but with
the increasing development of graphics cards and CPU's I now have a computer
that can run these racing games as good as or better than a console.

I sucked big time at GP2, at present I suck at f1 2001, but I'm getting
better.

Now please be a little more tolerant of you elders and betters across the
pond.   :o)

Maybe, but I don't have them. I'd rather have a mod for a game I own then I
can buy other stuff I want like DVD's and more Cake's. :o)

Ah well there you have it, I was stuck with an old 486 with no 3D card until
98, it was fine for most of the games I played on the PC.

Besides, it's CART racing.. we like proper racing in the UK... none of this
going around a short oval track nonsense.   :o)
