Question only for rich guys - GT mod for F1 2001

by Sven » Sat, 12 Jan 2002 07:01:49

I have now tried every car in this mod. I just love it. I hope they will put
the real rules in the mod when finished. I.e. the 100 kg to the winner, the
pointsystem aso. Really a great job, guys. And I mean both EA and the
mod.makers :o)

Now to the question. As I don't have severel Ferraris nor Vipers nor
Porches, I don't know if they act like in real life (her it comes for the
rich) as in this game. If you try your different, let's say Ferraris, is the
Modena then WAY easier than the 550 to find a right setup for? And when
found the Modena is WAY easier (and more fun) to drive than the 550? And how
about compared to the Viper?
I found the Modena to be a winner in this field. Easier to setup, easier to
handle, more fun driving, but is it real? Is a real Modeno really that much
better than the other cars?

Well, who knows? But the GT-R(ex-GT2) cars are somewhat peculiar in
this mod. The Viper and the Ferrari 550 brakes extremely badly
compared to the N-GT(ex-GT3). They also understeer immensely on
turn-in, and the front tyres heat up like crazy. I got 160deg. C on
the fronts and 90 deg. C on the rears at Suzuka! It wasn't quite as
bad on another track(A1-ring). One would guess that it has to do with
that those particular cars are front engined and something isn't quite
right in the chassis because the forward CoG.

But the Porsche996 GT3, Ferrari 360 and the Lister Storm(although it
also has bad brakes) is really, really nice. :) All in all I think
it's amazing work.

Thanks Atom!

Could you please help me with another issue, too? The driver in the Ferrari
55GT sits so low that I can't see anything. Is there a way of raising the
position slightly? In some positions I really don't see anything except the
intrument panel!? :-)

Hi Biker,

thanks for the hint.

Do you happen to also know how to raise the driver seat a bit in the Ferrari
550? It's so low that I really hardly see the track, and while I've never
driven a Ferrari, this is probably realistic only for drivers in the 5 foot
range ;-)

Hi guys,

please forget my question regarding the driver seat height. I've found the
settings.

Thanks!

Hmm... Actually in the touring cars I've seen you pretty much sit
right on the floor of the car. You also sit almost a meter further
back in the car. Maybe the same deal with these? :)

However, you can adjust the camera to whatever position you want. The
F1 2001\SaveGT\ folder contains a default.cfg file where you can
redefine all cameras.

Hi Biker,

thanks for the info.

I've meanwhile solved the prob by editing the driver's head position
directly in the car files. That was the quickest solution.

I agree you should sit deep and far back, but if you sit so deep you don't
see the road anymore, your race engineer has been too *** you ;-)
