June 30th, or that's what MS is saying anyways.

I think the deal is that they had a DirectX 4 beta, but when
developers started screaming for MS to fix Direct3D they just decided
to move on to the next version number.  I've also heard that they did
it so that version numbers would match with Visual C++, which is now
on version 5.0.  You're guess is as good as mine.

They'll release it before Win98 comes out... sometime in the next
month... probably the next week or so?  I've been using it for the
past couple weeks... works really well, IMO.  I haven't tried it with
anything by my 3D Pro Turbo and Voodoo board though.  Don't see much
of an improvement, but there is one... I can finally get my GP2 wheel
working in Win95 (improved joystick control panel)... for some reason
it wouldn't work before and I was too lazy to figure out why.

Yes.
In many countries the number 4 is considered unlucky and, therefore MicroSoft
(as well as Psion with their new organiser), are missing out that number and
going directly to '5'.

Hmmm.  So you can play one demo and form an accurate opinion about an
entire API?

That sounds very Microsoft to me. They work their contractors on X-mas
but they wont risk using an evil/mystical number out of respect for
their wallets.
