F1RS & DirectX5 Problems

by John DeTor » Fri, 19 Dec 1997 04:00:00

My F1 RS freezes up at various times leading to the race start. Sometimes I
make it to start and as soon as the action goes I lock up.  I had the same
problem with the Demo and can't remember what I did to get it working.
Then, I wanted to play CPR and was told I didn't have DirectX5 installed so
I re-installed and have not been able to get F1RS demo or full game going.
I have a 233 PII with a Screamin' 3D and Monster 3D, SB 32 PNP and 32 Megs.
Any suggestions on what I screwed up and how to fix it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I had the same problem.
It comes from the SB card! (actually the driver).
I just removed the wave audio device and it works.
Now I am using another SB card.
Try to disable the driver.

Francois,
Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately for me it did not work.  A new
card is in the future for me also.  What sound card did you get?  Any
problems or suggestions?
Thanks,
John DeToro

I replaced the PnP card by an old one (not PnP, no setup
to configure windows95, drivers loaded manually un config.sys ....)
but it works. It's a maxxi gamer or equivalent.

Francois.
