F1RS& NR1999: Any problems with a Dell XPS R 450???

by Greg Cisk » Mon, 21 Dec 1998 04:00:00

I am getting one of these systems soon. I was wondering if anyone
had any experience running F1RS with it? I was going to get a Montego
soundcard. I think I had read in the past that people had problems with
both games and this card. Is it true? I also was going to get either
a Creative Labs Voodoo2 (12MB) or a Diamond Voodoo2 (12MB)
card for this system. Any troubles with F1RS or NR1999 with either
of these cards?

Thanks much.

Since I am getting a new 16MB Riva TNT card with the new PC I guess
I will have to finally check out NHRA :-)

I posted this yesterday but never saw it posted. So my apologies
in advance if this is a duplicate.

F1RS& NR1999: Any problems with a Dell XPS R 450???

I have a Dell XPS R-400, with a Turtle Beach Montego PCI soundcard and
Diamond Voodoo2.  I have no problems running F1RS.  I don't have NR1999, so
I can't help you there.  Note: the Montego has a digital gameport, which is
a plus.  On GPL, the arms on the driver do jitter a bit, however.  On GP2,
my sound is slightly distorted.  One possibility for this is that I got a
warning about the number of available buffers I had, but I never explored
this (I was just testing).

Hope this helps,

Dave Ewing

Can't help with f1rs,but am interested to find out how it does. Don't have GPL
since it appears that the RIVA isn't yet completely supported. Is anyone
running GPL with this system and the RIVA TNT? How good is the performance?
Have GP2 and the game runs absolutely flawless.

The sound card IMHO is excellent. I've just gotten European Air War from
Microprose and the sound quality of this game is awesome

I have a Dell XPS 400 with a Montego card. All I had to do was install
the soundcard patch availible from Ubisoft and other web sites. BTW I
deleted the game as it ran terribly on my system. I also got frustrated
by the games way of slowing me down when I would just barely touch the
grass (or anything off track). I finally sold the game I'll never touch
Ubisoft again.

I thought the grass thing was fixed in one of the many patches Ubi
put out.   I've run the demo of both F1rs and MCgp and they feel kinda
empty...I hate to say this, cuz I'm not a big fan of circle track racing,
but
you have much more impression of the other cars, visually and sonically,
in N2 than in the Gper's.
