Why in the hell didn't the beta testers spot this?

I don't know if this is what everyone is getting, but with GPL 1.0 I got 36
fps. In the same places with 1.1 I get 25 fps.
But it's not just the game running slower.

The game appears to be limiting itself to 25fps, as it does at 36fps
normally. Also, if I start a qualifying session, and watch the timer, the
seconds tick by slowly. 10 GPL seconds now actually take 14 REAL seconds to
pass. This MUST be connected.

First I tried patching my old GPL install - 25fps.
Next I re-installed and patched the fresh install - 25fps.
I then went into the core.ini and set "clock_adj_delay = 16" and
"synch_method = 0" (2 common solutions) - 25fps
Turned FF on / off to check - 25fps
I replaced the new 3dfx rasteriser with the old one - 25fps
Put Glide 2.56 in GPL dir - 25fps
Tried standard joystick instead of MSFF wheel - 25fps
Even tried software mode - 10secs still took 14secs to pass.

Copied old GPL.exe and core.ini back - GPL 1.0 still runs at 37fps

The one factor that stayed the same is that time slowed down - 10 seconds
took 14 real seconds to pass.
The ratio 25:36 fps = 1.44
Ratio 10sec:14sec = 1.4

That MUST be a connection!!!!

WTF is causing this? It happens in all game modes (even training). Can it be
fixed? I want FF!

I just went through a very similar experience to yours. Tryed just about the
same things. Nothing seemed to be able to move  the FPS counter off the
24-25 fps mark, either on or offline. . Gave up in disgust and went back to
1.0. LATER did some switching back and forth between 1.1 and 1.0. Finally
decided to try 1.1 online again  just to get some kind of my daily GPL fix.
NOW I get 33-34 FPS ,both online and offline!! I have *absolutly no* idea
what finally kicked it in . Keep messing around with it, there must be
something in there that wakes this thing up.

GPL 1.1 Slow-down - TIME slows down - help! Randy?

This concurs excatly with what I have found.

Offline play is always like this - a 1.30 lap at Monza takes about 2.03 in
real time!! and it feels like driving in treacle.

Online varies: if I set server it is slow as above. Some servers fps is good
but can revert to slow intermittently. Other servers slow all time.

I have NEVER had a patch so adversely affect a game before - this shakes my
confidence in Papyrus as a supplier of leading software -it SHOULD have been
spotted before release and MUST be fixed real quick.

Spyboy racing used to be so much fun - now its an icredible source of
frustration!!

COME ON PAPYRUS - FIX IT - AND FAST!!!!!!!!! There are hordes of GPL
enthusiasts really p'd of right now.

For guys peaking at 25 or 30 fps or so, I wonder if it has
something to do with the monitor vsynch setting for the 3Dfx cards (I
don't have one, I've got a Thriller, so I can't be more specific).
Perhaps the fixes to the 3Dfx rasterizer have mis-set vsync?...

psst...hey, Greg.

Come here.

A little closer.

Closer.

No, right here.  I want to say this right in your ear.

There.

THE PATCH IS FREE!

For the love of all things good, man.  If you don't like it, reinstall
GPL 1.0 and be happy.

Alternatively, if you just can't stand it anymore, by all means, don't
let it ruin your day.  Here's a suggestion:

Click <Start> then <Shut Down> in Windoze.  Then, a dialog box will
pop up.  Click the radio button for <Shut Down> and click <OK>.  Wait
for Windoze to give you permission, and turn off your computer.

Then, go outside look at the sky for a while, or something.  :-)

Of course, thi...  Ahh!  I have to go, all of the town warning sirens
are all going off!  I think it's the hordes of p'd GPL enthusiasts
coming!  Man, by the sound of the roar, this is going to be worse than
the Great Hordes of GPL demo-ers we had back in the summer of '98,
waiting for the initial release.  Nearly wiped out the entire town!

Whoops, sounds like the hordes are getting awfully close now, I've got
to get my pitchfork and head for the bomb shelter!

(Everyone have a nice day!)

I have two machines setup with GPL, one has a Voodoo3 3000 and on this the
framerate shows no ill effects after patching with 1.1

The other has a Voodoo2 SLI config and this one shows the terrible slowdown
problems that seem to be affecting everyone else so perhaps the new
rast3dfx.dll is causing some problems for Voodoo2 users.

Can't see that affecting it. V-synch is turned off in my Canopus V2 drivers,
but even if GPL ignored that, it doesn't explain the figures. V-synch limits
FPS to multiples of the refresh.
The one thing my drivers can't do (due to them being betas coz 3dfx still
haven't supplied canopus with good ref. drivers) is change refresh without

v-synch played a part, I would get 30fps, not 25.

I've just noticed that if I'm connected to the internet I do get 33-35 fps,
but if I hit any walls etc, bringing in the FF, it drops back to 24-30 fps.

This isn't a cure though. I started a session, and started my watch. I then
drove around for 2 mins hitting walls all the time on purpose to bring in
the FF. The 2 minutes took 2 minutes and 3 seconds to pass. This would still
be unacceptable for multi-player games.

Also, offline it still stays at 25 fps.

I am experiencing almost the same thing...except I don't get the general

ADSL won't protect you, I am on ADSL as well and hooked up with a couple
of hosts that are cable or ADSL as well and suffered HUGE slomo/warps.
Just count you chickens, you have been lucky so far.
