GPL SLOW after 1.1 patch (solution)

by John Courtn » Sat, 10 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hi,
It turns out that Force Feedback was turned on in GPL.  To solve to
slow framerate problem I simply renamed the file "core.ini.sample" to
"core.ini".  I guess FF really kills the framerate!  Now I am back up to
36 fps again.

Hope that helps some people out who were having the same problem,
John

I suspect that depends entirely on which wheel you have. Some of them
really eat up CPU cycles. With my Logitech FF USB there's no
frame-rate hit at all. What wheel do you own?

No change with the ACT Labs wheel, either- at least not in my case.

Don't loose any FPS with the Microsoft wheel and the feedback is great!

I have a Thrustmaster T2, (no FF yet :( ) FF must have been turned on by
default until I setup my core.ini from the core.ini.sample file.  I also
noticed the controls were a little slower, so that would explain it
too.  I'll have to look into an FF wheel in the future though! (I'll have
to see which is the best one first!)

You had something else going on, I think.
FF is turned off by default. In fact, you need to do two things to
enable FF... rename the core.ini.sample, to core.ini and change the 0
to a 1 in the [JOY] section.
I have a Formula Force, and I didn't notice any difference in
framerate. Haven't had a chance to play a lot yet, though.
