When i start up GPL when not online, there is no activity (no
harddisk, CDROM or otherwise) for about 20-30 seconds.
Then after that it loads normally.
If i go online it loads the splashscreen after the usual 3-5 seconds.
It seems that the patch is checking if you are online, which in my
opinion is a waste of time AND an annoyance.
If anyone knows a way round this i'd apprciate to know about it.

He is checking your modem.
Add to your core.ini;
Disable_modem = 1

I don't use my modem for GPL either, but it wouldn't load (V1.0) if for some
reason my modem (which is attached to the system to fax and do my banking)
had crashed. Got it disabled now and, lo and behold, no more problems of
that nature.
