GPL 1.1 new default set-ups are great

Thanks Papy!!  Thanks to the people who toiled for many hours to give us
very driveable and nice set-ups for all of the cars on all of the tracks.

When I switched to 1.1, I was so interested in the FFB and playing around
with that, and then figuring out what was happening with the slo-mo effect,
I didn't bother to check out the new default set-ups until very recently.
They are excellent for a beginner and, I believe, since 98% of a good lap
time is skill not set-up, that they could be used to get some very
impressive lap times in the hands of the expert drivers out there (of which
I am unfortunately not one).

They certainly are superb for online racing, as it's much easier to be
consistent with them.

I haven't been able to match my best 1.0 hotlap at the Glen (1:05.5)
with the 1.1 setups, but I'm now doing very consistent 1:06s and 1:07s
in races, which is much better than doing a 1:05 and then crashing on
the next lap!

Last night I had a superb race at Spa where I set off third with a bunch
of much faster drivers behind me (they arrived late!), then the first
two guys span off (as I came through Masta I was confronted with a wall
of grey smoke when one guy span off!).

I led the race all the way through to La Carriere on the last (5th) lap,
when Mark Mercer made an aggressive move down the inside - we clashed,
and I somersaulted into the banking!

I still got second, and after the race I discovered that my fastest lap
was a 3:29 - over 3 seconds slower than everyone else!

Being able to stay on the racing line and not crash makes it much more
difficult for the others to get past, and the 1.1 setups are great for
that!

Can't argue about taste... I wouldn't want them on my simulated car even if
you paid me to use them, but that's just my opinion.

I am looking forward to 1.2, so we will have "true" lap times to compare.  I
can't believe that my lap times are slower by 3-5%....but maybe!?!?!  It is
almost sure that your lap times will be affected by the timing
irregularities in 1.1, so just hold on--you may be faster than you think!!!
(Let's hope it's not slower!!!)

Marc,

the latest version of GPL Spygirl, ver 1.1  now has a function in it to
confirm lap times.

I check my saved hotaps with it, and so far they have all been correct, it
measures it to more decimal places than GPL too

hope this helps
