Java applet. Today we also posted a FAQ for GPL 1.1, and a copy of
Alison's core.ini.
The new VROC applet is compatible with both Netscape and Internet
Explorer. It takes advantage of many of the new features in GPL 1.1.
The new applet makes it easy for the host to restrict clients to a
single class or a range of classes (i.e. F2 and F3 only) and/or a single
car type. This makes it easy to host, for example, a one-make race for
F2 Brabhams.
When you host or join through VROC 2, GPL launches more quickly,
bypassing some nonessential screens.
VROC 2 was upgraded a few minutes ago to show *all* GPL 1.1 races hosted
on VROC, including those hosted through the existing GPL Spy Boy and the
original VROC applet. This means VROC 2 will give you the most complete
list of GPL 1.1 races possible.
Another enhancement in the VROC 2 applet allows the user to make the
race list display all races, or only races which are available for
joining, or only public (non-passworded) races.
Also included in VROC 2 is support for a number of advanced hosting
options. Advanced hosting features include remote control of GPL 1.1
servers, unattended hosting by cycling through a script of races,
listing of races launched GPL 1.1 outside of VROC, and support for
operation of multiple GPL 1.1 servers behind a gateway or firewall.
VROC's new GPL 1.1 FAQ addresses many of the most common questions which
have surfaced since the release of the patch yesterday. Alison's
core.ini provides a convenient, practical baseline for the typical user.
Please go to the new VROC site at http://www.racesimcentral.net/ and explore the wealth
of new material there. Be sure to try out the terrific new VROC 2
applet!
