GPL 1.1 Lock-ups

by Ian Etchell » Sat, 24 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hi

I recently upgraded to GPL1.1 and installed a Logitech Formula Force wheel
but haven't been able to complete 1 lap without the game crashing with an
illegal operation warning popping up.  Hardware as follows:

PII 400 (o/c to 450)
256Mb RAM
CL TNT + Voodoo 1 (latest bios update/reference detonator and 3dfx drivers)
Logitech FF wheel (latest drivers and profiler software)
Diamond MX300 soundcard (latest reference A3D and Vortex drivers)
Gigabyte 686BX mainboard

The game crashes regardless of whether I'm using the TNT (opengl) or voodoo.
Going back to my thrustmaster T2 wheel or disabling FF in core.ini doesn't
cure it either.  I've also tried completely uninstalling GPL and
re-installing from  scratch - but no luck.

I'm eager to start racing with the new wheel and am so frustrated by only
being able to sample the FF effects of a few corners before the ***y thing
crashes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try disableing DirectSound Hardware Acceleration in the Vortex Control
Panel.  I was having the same problem and it worked for me.

I believe it's the latest A3D reference drivers.  The same thing was
happening to me.  I downloaded/installed the 102 drivers from Diamond at
ftp://ftp.diamondmm.com/pub/multimedia/monster-sound/mx300/102rel.exe  They
seem to work fine with GPL.  My problem is that the Diamond drivers crash my
PC when I'm playing Dungeon Keeper 2.  I'm installing different drivers
based on the game I'm playing. :-(

Do you happen to have a MS FF wheel?. I having the same problems, and im
currently running the 102 drivers from diamond also.

It seems to happen most when i am calibrating the wheel or viewing replays.
