Rendition Cards?

Rendition Cards?

Most of my games require, or support, 3Dfx, OpenGl and D3D, but one of them
(Grand Prix Legends) supports Rendition too. I was wondering what the
general cost of the bet Rendition card was, and if it's any better than say
a card which supports 3Dfx?

Does it come with any free games, like the Voodoo II?

Rendition Cards?

Rendition is/was the maker of the Verite line of chips. At least two
of their Verite cards are still available fairly widely, the Diamond
Stealth S220, based on the V2100 chip, and the Hercules Thriller 3d,
based on the V2200.

Rendition has its own accelerator API called RRedline, and when games
are written to that API they demonstrate what solid technology this
was.

Both these are very good cards, and the Rendition Verite has a loyal
and astute following. Drivers are getting very mature, and
overclocking is relatively simple.

Up against a Voodoo 1, an overclocked Rendition card with the newest
drivers can hold its own in framerate, though the Voodoo will be
faster. Image quality with the V2100, for instance, will however be
much better (IMHO).

This is an "old" chip in PC hardware terms, though, and for framerate
is blown out of the water by Voodoo2 and TNT, and even G200. Rendition
got bought out by Micron just on the verge of releasing their V3000
line of accelerator chips, and Micron has sent them underground to
work on the "V4000" or whatever they're calling it, hopefully to be
released by Christmas of this year.

The stealth2 S220 v2100 card kicks butt, for the money it can't be beat
I just bought a second one at a computer show for $55 dollars and Diamond has a
30 dollar rebate good through june on retail version.

Awesome card if you run papy sims.  I used to have a v1000 and just changing
this card increased my GPL framerate 10fps to 30-35 fps on ppro200.

The hercules thriller 8 meg pci is a great card for GPL. It will run about $120
right now. But you can get a 4 meg  card for only $35!!!  search pricewatch.com

I just curious why are you selling it.  On a 300mhz or less system it should
work great.

I think he means it's now for sale at BuyComp.com for that lower price.

Thanks for that, Brian.

Are there any Rendition cards for games like GPL which support something
like the Voodoo 2's SLI, so you can use two cards in one computer, to
increase the frame rate and resolution?

The Voodoo 2 only supports games in Windows. What about games which use DOS,
or games which don't support any 3D hardware, does haven't a 3D card help
with those?

Not true- Voodoo2 Should support any DOS Glide stuff.

Hmm,,, "game that don't support any 3D hardware.... will a 3d card help"?

No

I found that it did not perform nearly as well with GPL as my Banshee in my

Rendition Cards?

by . » Mon, 22 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I have a rendition stealth II, which I recently added a voodoo2 for
speed/support.

I find the rendition card runs faster and WAY better looking in RRedline
native API, but the problem is memory, it only has 4mb on board.

So the voodoo2 will do me for other games.. it's not as pretty, but maybe
when the next generation of Rendition stuff comes out, I'll switch back to
them.
