Rendition Cards?

How do you figure that those NG's are innapropriate for a thread about
Rendition cards?

ATI makes video cards with Rendition chipsets. How was the post
innapropriate?

With the exception of the Banshee and the Rush all 3DFX cards have to be
paired with a primary video card. Since most users are using a primary
card (mines a Rendition card) in addition to their Voodoo, I don't see the
post as innapropriate to a 3DFX NG. The original post also asked for
comparisons of Rendition cards to Voodoo cards and asked about the
features of both. IMO that makes it on topic for the 3DFX NG.

Some racing simulators have 3D support only for the Rendition RRedline
API. 3D cards are basically for games and if you've spent any time in
*** newsgroups then you should be aware that 3D card discussions
take place regularly and are considered on topic and appropriate for
discussion in those groups.

The only crossposted group that I would consider innapropriate for the
original post is alt.computer and that's because the group has such a broad
discussion subject that questions about video cards are unlikely to get any
attention. It's not off topic in that group but it's probably a waste of time to
ask such questions there.

All things considered I think the original post was appropriate for all groups
that it was posted to but I really don't like the mass crossposting method of
gathering information from newsgroups. But that's just my personal
preference. I don't really see any problem with anyone else doing it as long
as the groups are appropriate for the discussion.

In the future if anyone has a video card question there is a NG that is
specific to video cards and perfectly appropriate for any video card
discussion. Try comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video.

Au contre'; news.rendition.com has about a
dozen news groups for "rendition card owners" and their ilk.

Read Kenneth Duckett's message...

Get it? Get it? If so, GOOD, if not, I'm afraid that no one can help you
now!

And NO, alt.computer is NOT an inappropriate place for the discussion of
video and 3D/2D cards!

I also said in my post that alt.computer might be considered innapropriate
for video card discussions. That's not really true since vid cards are
certainly a computer part. What I should have said was that IMO
alt.computer just isn't a very good place to post questions about vid cards.
The majority of questions in that NG seem to be about certain brands of
computers and questions about computers in general. With the existense of
a video card specific NG (comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video) it's probably a
waste of time to post vid card questions in such a general newsgroup.

Fair enough and I agree that it might not be the 'best' place to put it, but
it still doesn't mean it's an off topic. The newsgroup is called
alt.computer, so we should be able to talk about anything in relation to
computers, even if there are other newsgroups for specific comments.

I'm afraid that the sims NG is quite relivant concidering that all of the
Papyrus (who make some of the best racing simulations known to man) games
(well, the best ones) support Rendition.

They're the ONLY games I have ever seen which support rendition, I think -
unless of course a patch was made later on, but that doesn't count.

And rendition and 3Dfx are often discussed in the sims newsgrou, because it
plays such an important part in racing simulations like Nascar 1 and 2 and
Grand Prix Legends!
