Games that best demonstrate FF?

Hi all,

There have been enough messages advocating one FF wheel over another on
this board to pore over for months.  Ultimately, I threw a dart at a board
and opted for the Forse RS/Shifter (actually in fairness to Act Labs, I did
a *little* more than this and am looking forward to getting the wheel after
it ships from back order).  It had pretty much come down to Force RS and
LWFF and I liked two things about the Force RS, the flexibility of use with
other systems (looking forward to Crazy Taxi and other DC racers) and the
shifter (don't race manual yet, but I intend to learn :-) ).  Anyhow, back
on topic...

I haven't seen enough threads cover the favorite FF implementation in
games.  Perhaps I am new, but if anyone can recommend their top 5 or so
titles, I would appreciate it.  Off the top of my list I have NFS3, NFS:HS
and Nascar 3 and look forward to testing the implementation in these.  I
expect to see the resident favorite GPL, i suppose.  In any case, I'd like
to hear your opinions.

Also, any recommendations for tuning the feedback settings on the
aforementioned games would be welcome as well.

Thx,
    Phil

Download the Demo's Philip. You can get a demo for all of those games,
plus DTR, Viper Racing, Midtown Madness, Driver, RC2000 and more.

The N3 demo was just released tonight (2 tracks), you can get all of
them at www.3dfiles.com

phillip,

I recently received a MSFF wheel as a gift from my wife,<G>,

and have a few observations:

N3: Great fun! esp. when a tire goes down, you know when you have heavy
wheel damage. : )

GPL: Adds to an already immersive simulatory experience. Its so good on this
game that I don't understand why!

Viper: If you like NFS,youl love Viper with FF!

My 1 1/2 cents

Nothing speciual there. N3 force-freedback is OK, the NFS games have a
very poor implementation. The only really superb implementations are
GPL (by far the best) and Viper Racing (not in the GPL league, but
miles better than anything else).

The FF effects in NFS are gimmics. They do not help with driving the car,
and in fact I drive those games better with out FF. The NFS games are only
good for showing off your new wheel to some one who doesn't play sims.
GPL by far has the best FF effects, you can actually feel what the car is
doing. If I were going to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10, GPL would be 9 or
10, and the closest sim would be like 5 (in my opinion MGPRS2).
The FF effects in Rally Champion are kinda cool also, but they don't help
you drive the car, they are more of the gimmicy FF effects.
I have not played N3, I have DL'ed the demo, but I haven't installed it yet
(cable modem, DL everything).

Philip,

My opinion is that the GPL and Viper Racing have the best FF implementations.
NASCAR Racing 3 is decent, but does not add to the actual handling/reaction
characteristics that GPL and Viper display.  Its the same in NASCAR Legends as
in N3.  DTR's FF implementation is a tad below that of N3 IMHO.

Viper and GPL took FF to the next level by actually helping the driver feel
what the car is doing and how it is handling.  Not just a vibrating wheel when
you hit something, etc  Be warned...  FF in GPL makes it much more difficult at
first.  However, a few hours and you will realize how beneficial FF is.

Good choice on the wheel/shifter BTW =)

MS Monster Truck Madness 2

if you've ever been off raod mud dogging you will know . I was pleasantly
suprised at how acurate this software really is,  and MGPR2  is good as
well,
but MTM2 is really good I was very suprised, and find myself in it just to
have fun,

Nascar revolution has the best...I got GPL..n3..viper and nfs-hs but NR
blows em away. Sure the game is not an all out sim but it gives you a nice
road feel and in the turns you can definitely feel all the bumps. My kid
plays it for the great FF alone.....

1) GPL
1) Viper Racing
3) NASCAR3 (Legends should be the same)
4) Re-Volt (more arcade style, but good surface-FF)
5) Driver (good gimmick-FF)

...of those I played... but there is no doubt, that GPL and Viper are top
notch...

Actually I found it instantly made the cars easier to handle. I just
wasn't able to pick up the subtle visual weight-shifting cues. With
the FF it became a whole new game.

I agree...it took a few minutes to get used to but it definitely makes the
GPL cars easier to drive.  It's like a whole new level of sensory feedback
is there to help you make corrections, tell when you are pushing the car too
hard, etc.  I guess some people (the best hot lappers) could do this just by
just looking at the screen and listening...but feeling as well gives some
hope for the rest of us!!

Marc.

It is maybe slightly above average. No where near GPL, and not as good
as Viper.

>FF in RC2000 is excellent.

I haven't been able to play this yet, but I'll cast my vote for *useful* FF
being top notch in GPL and Viper Racing.  That said, for sheer
wrist-spraining volume of effects I am going to have to pencil in Monster
Truck Madness 2.  The bangin' and bumpin' gets so hairy there sometimes that
it becomes hard to control the game without some genuine physical effort.

I got a Thrustmaster Force GT for Xmas this year and was completely blown
away by the FF in GPL.  If I knew it was as good as it is, I'd have sprung
for a better wheel much sooner.  Not that I don't like the TM, just wish it
were a bit smoother like my Nascar Pro.
