Nascar2 Runs aweful on my pentium 100. HELP!

by DaMa » Thu, 12 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I did a full install on a packard bell pentium 100 (16 meg).  It ran aweful.
It was choppy even during preseason testing with one car.  I turned most all
graphics off for a race and it still was aweful.  What could be the problem?
Is  pentium 100 still not enough for this sim?

I've got a Packard Pentium 100, too...I was silly enough to take the direct
order offer from Sierra, so, in about six months, when I finally get it, I'll
tell you...The demo didn't run bad, though.  Just a bit slower than ICR2.  If I
get Sierra's 3D card, I suppose that'll help, too...

Dell Xpsp100c, Pentium 100, 9fx motion 771 2 meg, 32ram EDO.  Running
all graphics on except track in SVGA.  Why all you buying Aptiva's and
Compaq and all the big ones that you pay 1000$ more just to have the
ugly on-line help and telephone/fax/answering machine?  Just buy Dell or
AST or Gateway2000.  You will pay 1000$ less AND with better hardrive
like 12x CD-rom or 16meg video cards!!!!
Thanks a lot,

Did you install UNIVBE with Nascar2?  It will be the file UNIVBE.EXE in
your Nascar2 folder.  If there aren't any other uni.... files in that
folder, double click the UNIVBE.EXE to install it.  That helped my frame
rate tremendously!!

I ran the demo on my machine with all options on and it ran perfectly.

My machine is:
P5-100
256K cache
No-name P.O.S. motherboard
16Mbyte RAM
Hercules Dynamite 128 (2Mbyte)
AWE32
WD 1280Mbyte HD
Seagate 850Mbyte HD
Mitsumi 4x CD
Thrustmaster Mark II FCS (connected to AWE32 port)
USR 33.6 modem
Nakamichi SP-3D speakers
Serial mouse
etc..
etc..

Indycar II runs at 11-14 FPS under Win95, and I would guess the N2
demo runs comparably in DOS.....  Hopefully the full release is
optimized to run faster than the demo.

455_cid

P.S.:  When I was using an ATI Mach 64 (2Mbyte DRAM) the frame rates
were about 10-12, so the Herc128 was not as much of a boost as I hoped
it would be.  Hope this helps.

LOL!!!   Do you know Which video card comes with a crapard Bell?
a 2 MEg CIRUS LOGIC 5430.
That video card is so old, even a Reactor in MODEX without RENUTIL
woudlnt be able to go THAT low!
Unless you changed it, or specifically asked for a different one, you
woudnt be able to run VGA games at decent speeds.
Go get yourself a Tseng 6000, or a Millenium, then come back and see
if it still runs slow.

No Daman I also have a P 100 16 meg computer and I have all the graphics
turned on and all the cars onand it runs very smooth and perfect oh yeah by
the way I only have a one meg video card.THe problem I see is that I have a
Trident computer (motherboard and video card ) nothing is intergrated onto
the mother board the first think I would suggest is to get a different
computer because any computer tech will tell ya that a Pacard Bell is a
piece of ***because everything is intergrated on to the mother board.

I would think that your framerate suffers...

I have a P5-133 16meg with an Intergraph Reactor.
I only run with 3 heard, 10 ahead, 3 behind, all detail, 640x480...

It runs smooth as glass...but I wouldn't bump it up any higher...

Well hell, I can play Quake at 1024x768 too, but it looks like a
slideshow.  Anything under 20-22fps is noticeably choppy to me.
Perhaps we have a different definition of acceptable.
