Nascar2 Runs aweful on my pentium 100. HELP!

Good god almighty!  You call 11-14 fps perfectly?  What, it didn't crash or
anything?  I am getting a solid 25-30 FPS from my P5 120 with all cars and
graphics on with ICRII Rendition.  This is what I expected, but did not
get, from N2.

Is this what you P5 133 < people call ' perfect '?  Just because the thing
runs does not make it perfect!  Hell, it even runs on a 486/66 with 16
megs.  What are they getting, a ' perfect ' 5-6 fps????

Actually, it helped me feel better about the FPS I am geting.

I have one,  and a P-5 120 with 24 megs of ram and while it makes ICRII
Rendition scream, it just makes N2 look pretty.  The SVGA version of N2
runs very well on this system, and this is mostly what I use.  I can't race
and watch the scenery anyway.....

You first problem is that it is a Packard bell.  These systems
have always been very disapointing in performance.  In fact they
supposedly shipped systems WITH cahce chips, but the chips actually
didn't work...(Heard it in another group..not sure about the truth
of it)

Anyways, I have never used a PB that performed up to par..
Try using the S3SPDUP program if you have a S3 chipset.  This
worked well for my system.

Odd.  I have a P-90/24 megs and the game runs pretty darn smooth with
the track turned off.  I was actually mighty impressed, because I'm a
stickler for frame rate.  Make sure that you have the VESA 2.0 drivers
loaded by running UVCONFIG before playing the game.

I'm not sure why your performance is so bad with the Rendition. I have a
P5-166 and I'm getting a very solid 30 fps on nearly all the tracks with
all details (measured with the frame counter in the last beta). The only
track that's a problem is Martinsville, where the frame rate is 5, unless I
turn objects off, and then it jumps up to 30.

How do you check Fps in Nascar 2?

I'm running a P100, 16mb ram, Reactor, on a 17" Mag.

I have maximum cars in front, 2 cars in rear, 3 cars heard, all graphics
on except the ashpalt texture and smooth play.

I'm also running renddma.bat and I've got 644K available conventional with
15m available upper.

Somewhere out there is a ' Eat Crow ' message I sent.  Turned out that my
BIOS was outdated, and it made all the diff in the world.  But, In ICRII I
get great framerates with all cars and graphics, where in N2 I have to
limit the number of cars to between 6-10, depending on the track, to get
the same rate as in ICRII. But, this I can live with.

Hi Robert,

I also have a P100 with a Rendition card
that runs N2 awfully.  How do I check
and/or update the BIOS
to see if thats the problem.

Thanks Alot!    Hank

BTW I also have a PPro200 w/ Rendition
card that, as you might imagine, has NO
problems at all.  Difficult to race "direct-connect"
when the P100 is so much slower though.

Run DMADIAG.  See what your DMA transfer rate is.  Someone here posted a
site where you can look up BIOS data, but I didn't copy it down.  Look back
through several days worth of messages, you will see it.

The only way I know how, it to set all the graphics to ON, except for 1.
Make it the Asphalt, because it is so obvious.

Set your Mimimum framrate to say.... 15.
Set your maximum framerate to ........ 20.

Go race.  As long as the asphalt doesn't turn off, your frame rate is 15 or
better.  Keep moving the framerate settings higher until the asphalt does
not turn on.  This will tell you that your frame rate is between the
minimum and maximum framerates you entered.

Of course, if your asphalt isn't on when you have it set at 15 & 20, lower
your settings until the asphalt appears.

Have you ran DMADIAG?  If so, what are the results?

BURN N

My DMA Test Results

Using QEMM
FIFO = 14.9 mb/sec
DMA = 33.1 mb/sec

Using EMM386
FIFO = 15.1 mb/sec
DMA = 33.0 mb/sec

Using no mem mgr
FIFO = 15.0 mb/sec
DMA = 33.0 mb/sec

ICR2 Results
Using the R2 (DMADIAG) batch file with ALL graphics "on" and showing a
full field ahead (32) and 2 to the rear, I was averaging around 24 fps
with plenty of 30 fps racing.

NAS2 Results
Using the RENDDMA batch file with ALL graphics "on" except the fence set

ahead (36) and 2 to the rear, the fence disappeared immediately in the
race and did not re-appear until 2nd lap when it stayed on for almost 100%
of the lap.  Dropped off for about 3 seconds coming thru the trioval onto
the front stretch.

I have also upgraded my Rendition Bios to #74.

Daman
 I too have a mudduck computer, In fact its one of them retarded P90's
. Sorry to hear you have all those problems with graphics. Like the
others that replyed here,Im running it with everything on except the
grass and asphalt. And I have and ATI card with 2 megs dram on it.
like the other guys here I agree,if it is on the motherboard,its
crap.Plain and simple. I did hear of a few cases where some one with a
pukard smells has bought a 3d card,plugged it in and whamo it was up
and running. You may want to check into this more.This maybe your only
salvation or like they said replace the motherboard or the whole
computer. Yea I know,it sucks.
