You are using RENDDMA and not N2REND, yes? There's a dramatic difference
between the two in terms of frame rate.

You can use the old standby of setting one detail to auto and the auto
frame rate controls to bracket the frame rate. However, the last beta of
the Rendition code had a frame counter, and that's how I'm judging the
performance on my machine.

Gee, let me see...  How did you spell it again???  :-)

Yes, renddma.bat is what I am running.  With just 10 or less cars drawn,
all graphics to on, except grass/asphalt, which is auto, my framerate stays
in the low 20's.  Any more cars and it starts to chop on me.  This is
acceptable to me.  For now.....  :-)

DMADIAG reports a score of 58.7 mb/sec.  Not great, but ok.

I've got a Crapard Bell myself...has a 5434 Cirrus card (maybe same as
5430?)...runs great!  Never any problems at all!  Of course, I'll still upgrade
to a Rendition card, but its not THAT bad...still, I'll never by a Crapard Bell
again...

Think of Dell as your next computer, or maybe Gateway 2000.  You pay +/-
1000$ less for the same computer with better hardware (ex: SDRAM now on
all Dell, I think).

The only problem here (at least as far as Gateway) is that you'll get a
good system - a fair price - but the worst customer support people
in the industry.
