New GPL beater in sight? F1 2000...

GPL is by far the best auto racing game, 'till GP3 comes along,
naturaly, and...hooops, what's that? F1 2000? I couln't believe the
screenshots and specs -that they released today- of the upcoming
Electronic Arts F1 game, to be released on march the 15th!!!

Take a look at www.simracingnews.com where there is a link to the
screenshots and specs site. Best and most realistic af what I saw to
date! They say there is a new "6D physics" engine that allows realistic
skids, sand and wind effects (!!), tire smoking and traces (!!!). But
really, the car details are astounding!!!

PS No, I don't work for Electronic Arts. I just wanted to pass on the
information.

They said the same thing about NASCAR Revolution. Odds on F1 2000 will be
garbage, too.

Hmmm.  "6-D Physics"...  But I see no***pit screenshots, and no mention
of multiplayer.  I'm not getting my hopes up, but it has potential.

Don't hold your breath. The next time EA makes a decent racing game will be
their first.

Aw, come on.  You're being a little harsh.  SCGT isn't too bad - not in the
same league as GPL to be sure, but enjoyable.  I'd like to see them beef-up
the physics a bit and totally replace the force-feedback with something
decent, then SCGT would be pretty good (the AI could use work too).

As always, let's hope more than the graphics are impressive.

With EA's reputation, we'll have to wait and see.

I am learning to be very suspicious of titles heavily promoted on
screenshots.

There are a few***pit shots showing a "look left, look right feature".

6 DOF physics - hmm... spin, slide, wiggle, bounce, shine and doppler?

Stephen

p.s. then again, NFS Motor City also boasts of a revamped physics engine
using rigid bodies instead of lookup tables.  Maybe EA has seen the light.

six degrees-of-freedom motions (X, Y, Z, Yaw, Pitch and Roll)

Actually, Stephen I think you are closer. ;)

Thanks for the clarification.

Just so no one thinks I am a dolt, I was joking.  I model this stuff on a
daily basis for my PhD.  I was merely proposing that EA might have
different priorities for the DOFs that they model.  For example, if one
looks to their Nascar games, one sees that "bouncing up and down on the
suspension in time to the music" is a very important part of their
model.  No doubt there is a real time FFT and PSD running in the
background to figure out the *** frequency of the techno track, and
this is then implemented in the "bounce" subroutine by dumping fuel and
re-valving the shocks until the natural frequency of the suspension
matches the music :)

I'd buy the game if it had a turbo button, a Michael Jordan
one-on-one race, commentary by Julie Foudy (but only in the States;
those unlucky Euros get Murray Walker), and a feature that would let
me digitally import my face onto every member of my pit crew.

Would I continue?

I cannot find any mention about AI in any degree.

And its cars are all looked like just stick on the ground exactly parallel,
no suspension works at all in every screen shots, like Ubi F1. Looks
unnatural.

Hey, where is 6-D physics? =)
