today I found a way for getting better framerates! In GPL the change
is not very big, but there wasn't any problem. But F1 2000 became much
better: I could come back to full field instead of 11 opponents in quick
races, I could make 8 cars visible instead of my former 6, and I could
take mirrors back - well in the starts I still take them off with the
R-key, but when the field spreads, now I can use also the mirrors!
My solution might be system spesific - I have a "low end" one: PII350,
Voodoo2 8Mb, MSFF - but perhaps this will help somebody:
I went to the Control Panel and in the screen settings there is the
panel for "Power 3D2" settings. I had used the 60Hz, which is the min.
I changed that to the max, 120Hz. And that really made the difference!
I do not really understand why, because it is easy to think that
refreshing the screen more often would use more resources! Anyhow,
it worked for me. Perhaps someone else will also get a positive
surprise! Worth of trying!
Another tip is that if you needed to edit the Video.cfg to get all of
the screen to be seen, the original advice told you to change the
line in "Direct 3D Secondary"-part from "Mode_800x600=0" to
"Mode_800x600=132". Even when that helped, it made the text infos during
the races printed partly out of screen. Use "Mode_800x600=180" instead.
Then all the printed texts will be nicely centered!
I hope somebody will be more happy with F1 2000 after these changes!
I really am! And also in GPL there was a certain 2 to 4 improvement of fps'.
