f1 2001: wheel settings

f1 2001: wheel settings

by Colin Harri » Mon, 10 Dec 2001 00:02:46

Well, I'm a bit stumped here - MS Sidewinder, FF on and I just can't get the
wheel to feel as good as people are saying - I've tried editing the .plr
file with the recommended settings for the Sidewinder, but I get a pull
similar to the GP3-style pull when I try. I can barely keep a straight line!
(please, no wiseguy comments here...!)
Can someone post their settings, or .plr settings, or whatever, as I'm
trying to see what the fuss is all about.
Thanks all...

I have the Logitech Formula Force and use the default
settings. I don't even edit the PLR file with the recommended
settings. It has an awesome feel.

OK, then, Greg, what are your settings for X axis, Y axis, Steering
sensitivity and FF please?

These are the MS FF  settings that need to be pasted into your .plr file.
They were originally posted by Pat Dotson and I can confirm that they work
very nicely in Win 98.

Thanks a lot, Ted (and by proxy, Pat), I'll give 'em a go!

Try setting the FFB strength within the game to a negative number.

Set this line to a positive number and not a negative. The recommended
settings for this line are the opposite of what it should be if you have the
USB version of the MSFF wheel. They must have tested it with a gameport
version.

FFB_Steer_Force_Input_Max=(6800.000000)     // Recommended: 7000 (-7000 if
controller pulls in the wrong direction)

Yes, but Pat used the gameport version of the MS wheel. On the USB version
you must take out the - value or you will get the effect the original poster
is describing.

No, he already has it at a negative number. That's what the problem is. He
needs a positive number on that specific wheel.

Mine's the gameport version, too. I've tried the settings, it seems better,
but not perfect by any means, and I have a HUGE amount of FF even when the
car's idling - I guess the "engine rattling" FF is turned up too high. I ran
out of the pits and the whole desk was jumping up and down :-)
Incidentally, these settings (Pat's) are setup for a joystick, not a
wheel...is that right?
Thanks for trying to help, Nos...

Ok then, set it to a number that's negative to your current negative number
;)

As far as I know, the only difference between the joystick
and wheel settings is this:

The joystick setting puts the throttle and braking effects
on the Y axis of the joystick.

The wheel setting will put the throttle and braking effects
on the X (steering) axis.  In my settings, those effects are
turned off.  I chose to use the joystick settings with a
wheel because I never want those other effects interfering
with steering forces.
