Odd, since my gameport version of the MS FF needs a negative
number. Maybe it's a soundcard/wheel/MB issue :)

Yes, gameport version negative and positive for USB version of the MS FFB
wheel.

I don't actually use Pat's settings, I use the ones provided by ISI in the
advanced docs for the MS Gameport wheel but just change the - value to a
positive one on my USB wheel. I don't get the effects you describe at all.
