Hmm, No talk about this track at all?  I like this one and have been doing a
lot of practice as well as racing online, course on sierra it is a  lot
different.  As one racer put it "There sure were a lot of chicanes out there
tonite."  :-)  I came in sixth having missed all of the wrecks somehow.
After watching DW's drive around Pocono on trackside tonite I tried
adjusting my line to what he was saying and have now scrubbed the entire
wall all the way around I think, :(
I have had a lot of luck going off the gas early and then a late entry into
one, floating into 2 while downshifting and riding 3rd into 3 with pretty
heavy breaking into the entry, then accelerate ***to the straight.
Still not running anything lower than low 56.xx but that is probably because
I am not running really smooth lines.  This new equipment has helped a lot
and I think I have the settings to where I am comfortable.  I am now trying
to find different lines and the best way around so that feels like a
breakthrough as I have spent so much time just working on being able to get
around the track.

Can anyone give me a better line to run around the track or have I found a
pretty decent way?  My line seems to allow me to catch cars and pass on the
outside of 2, then I lose time in 3 and generally end up fighting the same
car I just passed into 1, so there must be something there??

I've managed a couple of 54.2's, but the only way I've managed that
is by downshifting for turns 1 and 3 (I don't downshift in 2 unless I
come in too hot and need more control).  The whole secret here is how
well you come off the turns.  You might get better times if you slow
your entry into 3.

Although I wont be able to make the race today (working, I'm in construction)
my problem is definately turn 3.  What a tortuous turn.  I always feel like I'm
going in too slow and always, and I mean ALWAYS find myself going too fast.
Harumph!

Other than that, I concur with John on using third for turn one, although that
seemed odd to me, as I seem to remember using fourth all the way from the exit
of turn three to the entrance of turn two and now I seem to be using third gear
as the primary racing gear.  Seems like the Fast Setups gearing is just a
little off.

Oh well, with the new late start time, I hope to be participating on most
Saturdays.

Good luck to eveyone in todays race and I will be looking forward to the
post-race remarks here in R.A.S...

Haven't driven there lately, but as I remember the ideal line is
something like...  Brake when you see the groove for turn 1, downshift
to 3rd, get off the brake as the turn starts and the groove darkens,
and use one of the signs as a guide for getting on the throttle (or is
there a "Pocono" label on the wall?  I forget).  Turn 2 you should be
redlining in third, brake when the groove starts, off the brake and
coast/turn in when it darkens, on the throttle hard when you see the
'nascar racing' logo on the wall.  Turn 3 brake at the groove, off
when it darkens and turn in really tight against the curbing, I
believe the third sign is the signal to floor it and if you keep close
to the inside you should drift out perfectly to the wall, just missing
it.  Then upshift after you pass the start/finish line and do it
again.

Good times in the fast setup in N2002 were 54.9 as I remember, I'm
guessing N2003 would be mid to low 54's.

During practise today I found that the "fast" setup suffers
from exit-corner oversteer, but only during the first couple of
laps until lap 5 or so. After that, the power-on oversteer
somehow magically disappears. It's a problem esp. in turn 3
leading onto the S/F straight, so I'll try to keep my patience
there today ;-)

BTW, has anyone done a***pit paintjob for n2003 featuring the
large "patience" sticker that was in earlier versions of Nascar
Racing?

Cheers,

uwe

Just seven laps into the race, someone looses it in turn 3, and
instantly, four or five cars out of 15 are eliminated from the race.

Shame that John :(

If there is a bright side, there were slightly more starters. Most of the
latter part of the race was green and I had more fun racing Ian and Ginger
(and getting beat) than I have had in any Nascar race for ages. Absolutely
brilliant stuff.

Grats to Ging and Ian - class acts.

Still, it was the cleanest racing I have yet seen in N2003,
although I dropped out with about 20 laps to go because of my
own stupidity.

After a long RASCAR absence please let me say that I am quite
glad to be back with the lot, and thanks again for

a) pushing back the start time
b) allowing Marco to race this one, he enjoyed it!
c) for being such a clean bunch of guys to race with.

All the best,

Uwe

Except for my lonesome spin in T2, Lap 1 :(  (haven't checked the replay
yet, hope I didn't cause anyone else to be involved)
Otherwise I had a great race, congrats to Ginger for the win and to Neil for
making my life really tough :)

Sorry to drop out, but I have a serious controller problem on my hands. The
throttle of my MOMO now reads stuck wide open, the brake does nothing when
pressed. I've tried uninstalling, removing calibration data via DXTweak and
re-installing using latest Wingman Software, but no dice. I'll try it on my
old system tomorrow and if it don't work there it looks like I'll be
spending Monday tracking down a new Logitech MOMO Force... <sigh>

Just to specify: I dropped out from practise. The problem became apparent
then and not during the race.

Sorry to see that happen so early to you guys.  I got bounced into the wall
a few laps later, 20?, I wasn't having much luck cornering, and from there
even though I got repaired my car really would not turn.  Some of you guys
did a pretty good job of getting around my loose ass! :)  I sorry I took out
our newcomer by missing a shift going into three and that was the end of my
day....mostly caution laps.
Would there be something that would make the car handle differently on the
rascar server from the sierra servers??  Maybe I just had a bad day but it
sure did seem to drive tighter yesterday in online races.  Anyway, I still
love being out there on the track with you guys, hope to see the end of
another one soon  :-)

Would have been nice to run with you all tonight. I fully intended to,
logged on but was blocked from joining. I suspect that the powers that be
never put me on the list.

Wasn't much fun sitting in the chatroom, watching the time ticking down
whilst practice was in full flow !!

I had the same problem. It said I had the wrong password. I installed
the game on a new PC and had my name set correctly. I'm kinda bummed,
I wanted to test a new DSL connection.
Maybe next week I'll have my main PC hooked up to the DSL line.

There isn't a password, ZZ - you have to be on the invite list.  You should
have been able to leave the password field blank.  If that didn't work,
double-check that the ID you use is the one on the RASCAR roster page...
