pathetic.

That's about true, and the opposite is totally acceptable also.  I always
said that racing simulations are on their own, it's a new form of racing
that cannot be compared to reality.  Well it's reality within itself.
That's why most of us admire GPL, because it's a single form of racing, even
if it's not really "real-life" racing.  But is it really important?

There's no absolute definition of "racing".

Hey Guys,
I`ve  noticed a few posts in this thread talking about how the aids
being used in todays F1 cars have a negative effect on F1. It`s
obvious that some people are of the opnion that true driver
skill becomes harder to notice as more aids are introduced,
some even think that just about anyone could drive a F1 car
these days.

While I don`t have a strong opnion on the subject, I just thought I`d
post what Schumacher had to say about it (in case anyone missed it).

Technology has evolved over the last decade in Formula One, but
championship leader Michael Schumacher insists that technology
has not shifted the balance from the driver.

He explained why not when he said: "I see it like this: You are able to
be more constantly at the limit [of the car] with it [better electronics]
and you don't have to take care of any power peaks of the engine.
It gives us more freedom to drive a bit faster. And the ability to
handle the car permanently on the limit is what makes a good driver".

Jaguar Racing's CEO of their Premier Performance Division
Niki Lauda said recently that with the introduction of electronic driver
aids even a monkey could drive a F1 car. Michael Schumacher
refuted this when he said: "I mean, now, with all the electronics you
can use, there are people who say monkeys could drive these cars.
But believe me: they could not, at least not as fast"

Impressive record Jon. Can I ask you something? (rethoric... I'm going to
anyway!! ;-))

Would you consider simracing more a surrogate for real racing (some of the
thrills and sensations for a fraction of the cost and without the risk of
injury), more a hobby (like model trains) or more a sport (like golf)?

I'm not saying Jon doesn't really believe what he wrote about sims in this
thread, but, how could he say anything else when he's asking people to pay a
lot of money for a hyperstim?

Here`s another way to compare sim vs real, or more to the point, if sim
skills can be related to any real world driving skills.

If given a few months of practice in the real 996 Turbo who do you think
would be faster; One of the top GPL sim racers on the planet, or someone
who`s been playing GPL for years but hasn`t even got to the point where
he could be considered a mid-pack GPL racer ?

I tend to think that if you`re a very fast sim racer [chances are] you`d
make
a better real life racer than someone who can`t do very well at sims no
matter how hard they try.

Btw, I also believe that if they were to put the time into it, any top racer
in
real life would probably do very well at simulation racing.

And in which way does this little gem relate to my question?

I asked him a question on how he personally experiences racing sims. What
makes you think he'd turn his reply into an advert? He didn't even plug
Hyperstim in his original reply. To tell you the truth, I didn't notice the
connection until I snipped his return address from my reply.

David G Fisher took a deep breath and coughed up:

So, according to you, he's either deluded or lying? You really are
pathetic! Now David, are you trolling or are you just plain stupid? Come
on, you can tell us.

Patrick Head and Frank Williams have stated this on numerous occasions
over the last decade or so. They purely concentrate on the
constructors championship, the drivers is a secondary consideration.
