SB Live and GPL

I'm considering upgrading to the SB Live audio, and was wondering if
anyone has encountered problems with this card and GPL. Also does it
seem to remove any of the annoying sounds that are heard in the
engines using the AWE64? Any suggestions as to a better quality sound
card than the SB Live in the same price range?

I assume the SB Live also has a digital game port? Has anyone compared
this to the PDPI game card?

SB Live and GPL

I have had no problems with the SB Live.  I use a ACM card card and disable
the gameport.  I run two speaker systems.  ALTEC ADA-305 USB is on the desk
with the sub-woofer to my right, on a different table.  Below my desk is an
ALTEC an ACS system with the sub-woofer under the desk.  The SB Live was
touchy getting to work correctly but made it on my own without tech support.
One of the neatest accessories is a Quickshound control panel Labtec.  It
connects to my Com 2 port and the control panel sticks on my monitor where I
have complete control over treble and base, sound and wave volume.  This is
very handy because in N2, I take all the treble out of the sound.  The SB
Live really helped N2 and is awesome in GPL.  Being PCI, is should help
framerates.  Contact me is you need additional information at

I'm running the SB Live! here with GPL and the engines all sound fine.

The SB Live! has an analog gameport, not digital. I haven't had any
problems
at all with it.

SB Live and GPL

Hello Tim,

I use an SB Live! with GPL and it works and sounds great.  I run one of the
pre-defined environments which adds some "richness" to the engine sounds.

I removed a TM ACM card and use the SB Live! gameport directly.  It has been
very stable and reliable.  It also speeds things up a little by avoiding the ISA bus.
I have the full version of the Live!, but for someone purchasing today, the value
edition would be a great choice.  I'm very happy with mine.

I don't think anything has better quality sound than the live in the consumer
marketplace.  If that really matters to you, you might wish to get the full version
which includes the digital inputs and outputs for studio equipment.

Best Wishes,
Scott

No problems at all. Sounds great. If you get it, try the 'forest' setting for
Rouen, you'll luv it!
