I have also had this prob with other ppl who have come around for LAN

This is in GPL btw....

BUT.. if another of my friends hosts..  (Vail Riches)..   it worked
GREAT!!!   No problems.  :-|

We all have the same Network cards..  drivers..  etc...

Hmm..  can't work it out..     It sin't soooo bad..   but I want to be
ableto host on the 333 cos it isprobably better...

LAN Problem!!!! Anyone??

Are you running Win98?

We have a 5pc LAN in our house (students you see :) ), and when we all had
Win95, there were no problems. Once we began to drift over individually to
98, people kept getting booted from games. We tried changing cables,
changing plugs, removing PCs from the LAN one by one, even tried borrowing
an RJ45 hub, to no avail.

Finally it turned out that the Realtek compatible Network card drivers that
ship with Win98 are a pile of pants. When we installed the '98 drivers that
came on a floppy with someone's card onto all the computers, our problems
were immediately solved.

Check your driver disk, if there's a 98 driver there, install it. If that
doesn't make any difference, (and assuming you're using a standard Realtek

you our drivers, or post them on my website so you can d/l them

Hope that helps.

P.S. if not all PC's are on 98, at least install the drivers on the server.
That should make it stable enough to connect to.

Doh! just realised I put a typo in my e-mail address!

Derek (original posting) has already contacted me about this, but if anyone
else wants the drivers, let me know and I'll post them on my site - assuming
it's legal to do so (anyone know about that?!)

LAN Problem!!!! Anyone??

by Dere » Mon, 12 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hey Mike,
I think we're suffering from the same problem that you
had. I had a feeling the Win98 Realtek drivers were crap, but I haven't had
any alternatives to test it out. If you could mail me those drivers you
mentioned, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

                                   Derek.
