Can anyone help with GPL and LAN?

by Hans-Ott » Sat, 25 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Hi

I have this weird problem with GPL and LAN over IPX and what happens is
this:

When I run GPL using IPX in multiplayer the L-bar is showing one red step on
the scale which is ok, but the Q-bar shows almost a quarter of full scale
which is not good. The S-bar is ok.
The funny thing is that when I use TCP/IP the Q-bar is almost never showing
up and I never get disconnects.
I can of course always use TCP/IP with GPL, but sometimes when I boot up the
machines I get CRC errors when copying from one machine to the other, but
not the other way around??
I've done extensive testing of the cable/card hardware and GPL always work
with TCP/IP so the hardware should be ok.
I tried all kinds of settings in the network drivers and I don't have a
sigle shared IRQ on any machine.

I really can't believe that I can't trust the network at all when copying
files have to ZIP the first to recheck after transfer.

Another thing is that without both IPX and TCP/IP installed nothing shows up
in GPL multiplayer. Are they working totally together?

B. Gates isn't very helpful either with his quick help tips in the
networking setup so if someone can give me a hint where the problem is I
would appreciate it.

I use two Realtek cards and use fixed IP when running TCP/IP.

Cya,
Hans-Otto

Make sure the [Communications] core.ini settings on both machines are
identical, particularly all those starting with net_lan*.

Thanks alot Alison, It was the net_lan_client_send_every param which where
wrong, 2 on one and 3 on the other. The clock_adj_delay was 4 on one and 12
on the other. Now the Q-bar is nearly ever seen.
We've been swapping core.ini's and other files alot lately.

Thanks again! Now we gonna race all night long this weekend to celebrate :-)

Great!  I was pretty sure that was it from your description of the
symptom.  Glad you've got it working!
