GPL on Windows 2000 (and a bit F1 2001)

Just to check it out I installed Win2000 this weekend, and it worked
for most of the games great. The MSFF (gameport) profiler could not be
installed, but the wheel was recognized by windows and with split axis
support.

Rally Trophy demo was great. Better framerate than on my crappy winME
installation.

F1 2001 worked, but I have the "half pedal travel before anything
happens" problem. I tried to use DXtweak to fix it, but I couldn't get
DXtweak to work. Somehow I couldn't click the checkboxes or alter any
values. Pretty weird.

GPL was a whole other story. It didn't run in Glide, so I had to
change it to Direct3D. But in direct3d I got a huge problem with
polygons all over the place, like the z-buffer didn't work or
something. Very weird, and very undrivable.

Many thanks for any tips.

oh, my system:

SB Live player
V5 5500, running latest certified windows 2000 1.04 drivers.

GPL definitely runs in W2K using Glide. Just make sure you installed a
driver by
3dfx, the MS packaged driver doesn't include the Glide libraries.

3Dfx is making Win2K/XP Glide drivers from beyond the grave?

nope but the drivers exists without having been made by 3dfx....

no, but they created working drivers before they were dying. ;-)

LOL! But GPL does currently not work though. All other applications
work great, even F1 2001.

I haven't tried withough FSAA. When I start GPL with 2xFSAA I get the
3dfx splash-screen, the GPL version welcome screen, and then a blue
screen with the upper left quarter black, mouse a hourglass and
I have to use the Swedish button the restart my computer :)

If you are getting the 3dfx splash screen something is not right. Check the
readme file with the d3d patch it will tell you which file to edit to set
the rasterizer <sp> to use. Sounds like its still set to use glide but
trying to run it on a Nvidia card which will deffintly not work!

He has a 3dfx card Mad....i'm thinking his CERTIFIED drivers are not
working right.  Perhaps a peek at some of the privately built drivers with
newer dates than your present drivers may be the solution.  Good luck...

Whoops!

But i still don't think he should be getting the 3dfx splash screen when
trying to run d3d. I never did in my 3dfx days, but they stoped with the
Banshee card.

Olav,

which drivers, which card? For the v5-5500 1.04.0 would be fine.
check with driver details.
check for glide libraries in system32 (correct, these are the drivers
matching your vga drivers release),
check for glide in gpl (not correct may. be from an older installation if
you just moved your gpl-dir).

oh... last but not least, you *have to* use the smiley glide patch, without
it is not working (vb, v3 and above)

my v5-5500 runs fine with or without fsaa.

hehe, thanks Dave :)

Ok, let's break it down one more time:

Direct3D: (using rastd3d7.dll) no FSAA 1.04 and 1.07 (private)
drivers. DX 8.1 (i think, from the F1 2001 CD)

no startup problems. Everything works fine until after i've chosen
track. When that happens, the first this is that the program cover is
still a part of the pitlane replay picture. Then when I go racing,
there are polygons and textures all over the place.

Glide: (using rast3dfx.dell) no FSAA 1.04 and 1.07 (private) drivers.

3dfx splash screen. Grand Prix Legends title screen. Then a blue
screen with a black upper left quarter of the screen
black. Mousepointer is a hourglass. No hard disk activity, no mouse
activity, no response to keyboard. PC needs rebooting.

And my system:

3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 AGP (is that clear now :) )

128 MB sdram

It works in WinME. So maybe I have to revert back until I get new gfx
card... To bad since Win2000 seems mighty good.

Ok, i'll try that when I get home. When you mention it, it didn't work
in glide on winME either, so I've been using d3d since.

Olav I have pretty much the same system you mentioned except bx6 rev2 and
live value.
I updatad to win2000 last weekend & found I had to use the smiley glide
patch for GPL - got weird polgons in D3d here.
However I have a logitech wingamn formula force and cannot get this to work
in F12001 in split mode
Any ideas anyone?

Thanks Robin. Seems like this is the fix needed. If it could just stop
snowing outside I can walk home and try it :)
