F1 2000 to F1 2001: is it worth it ?

by John Metco » Thu, 24 Jan 2002 15:22:21

hi

I already have F1 2000 . I wonder if it is worth it
to get F1 2001 ???

The main complaint I have had with F1 2000 is the AI
collision and behavior at the corners.

Graphic was also another issue , simmering at the
horizon
and some glitches here and there.

Game menu is one of the smaller issues with F1 2000.

so those who had both, is it really worth it ???

IMO there is a world of difference, espeically with the driving model,
sound(best F1 sound ever!)and graphics.

All the best,
Ash

Can anyone please point me to an F12001 demo (and comment on how similar it
is to the full game)?

I have a lowly PII-450/GF2 GTS and don't want to spend my hard-earned 30
quid if it's not going to be playable on my system.

Thanks
Jim

Since the demo would not have Force Feedback, there is a world if
difference. F1 2001 is really head & shoulders above the rest. After
reading so many positive comments about the game I am surprised
people still don't realize that.

Greg I realise that there is plenty of positive opinion about F12001. I just
wanted to try out a demo before I bought it because (1) I'm skint and 30
pounds is a lot of money for me, and (2) I'm not sure if my computer is
beefy enough to be able to run it decently.

My wheel doesn't have force feedback anyway.

I couldn't find a demo online and wasn't sure if one was released so I
posted to say does anyone have an url where I could download the demo?

Thanks
Jim

Jim,

I dont think there was a demo released.  It is great IMO, the only
reason I dont play it is the lack of good multiplayer support (inc. no
LAN AI :(( )

I am pretty sure I have seen it on special offer for 19.99 somewhere
tho.  Either game / eb or softwarefirst.com i think.

You are right though it needs a fairly beefy machine for best results :/

All the best,
Ash

If you're into F1 racing, no doubt.

I found it for $29.99 (on sale). The "beta" patch, (quickly released
after F12002 became available) really fixed a lot of things. Hmm... I
doubt if EA will patch it again.

IMO the A/I cars almost "polite", compared to F12K. There's also a
setting for "A/I driver aggression".

Same problems I'd guess. Perhaps it looks a bit sharper than F12K,
yet the beta-patch toned-things down quite a bit (but increased
frame-rate too).

Same (frustrating) menu problems with newer too, but a couple more
features.

 For $30.00 it's worth it.

Is it a better sim than F1 2000 ? Yes, by far and with the FF patch it feels
better too, but.....

It won't run worth a shit on your PII 450, at least not without turning off
so many graphics and running so low a res as to make it look like a 3 year
old sim/game.

So I'd save your $$$ for a hardware upgrade instead

Isn't the successor, F1 2002, on the way soon?
