Get over it -- it's NOT going to happen. Midway has the CART license
tied up through 2003, and they're not going to do anything for the PC,
as far as I can tell.
The best you can hope for is the CART2K project from the CHAMPWeb
folks and the CART Heat project (http://cartheat.bhmotorsports.com/).
And BOTH of those are going to be far better than the LAST major CART
sim we saw (i.e., C:PR).

"Midway Games has landed the rights to use the Championship Auto
Racing Teams (CART) license in future racing titles. According to a
company release, Midway has secured the exclusive rights to publish
fantasy-style CART racing games for all major platforms and for the
PC. The agreement runs through 2003."
If that's not a good enough source for you, try this one:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
Which says:
"Under the terms of the agreement, Midway Amu***t Games LLC and
Midway Home Entertainment Inc., both subsidiaries of Midway Games
Inc., have secured the exclusive rights to publish fantasy-style CART
racing games for all major video game platforms and the PC market.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed."
There's that silly little term again: "Exclusive."
The "fantasy-style" verbiage would appear to be a loophole, but the
CART folks seem to be oblivious to the difference between a "sim" and
any other sort of video game.
Go figure. Their loss. Our loss, too, unfortunately.
Can you say "CART Heat" and "CART2K"? I knew that you could.

Exactly, it's not an exclusive deal. The words "fantasy-style" are not
there for nothing. It's an license for arcade-type games, not a full
license for any kind of CART-related product. Let's remember that at the
time they got the license, they even shared it with Papyrus (it ends for
them at the end of this year). So it's not exclusive
No, they know at 100%. The words fantasy-style wouldn't be included if not.
Well, those aren't legal to start with.

Hey, someone has to light the fires under corporate America, and what
better way to do so than to poke them in the eye and show them that
they're missing out on some golden opportunities, and some VERY hungry
consumers.
Plus, I'm sure CART doesn't care at all -- they've already received
their licensing fees from Midway, and our efforts are just free
advertising for CART. As for Midway, the last time I checked, they
didn't have ANY PC-based games in the works, meaning that they've
pretty much abandoned that segment of the *** market, despite the
fact that they DO also own the PC license rights to the CART license.
The IRL doesn't care, either -- the IRL Heat effort is just free
advertising for them, and we're doing a LOT more for them in tha area
than Infogrames is. Infogrames OWN the license to the Indy 500 and
the IRL, and they ALSO published NASCAR Heat, but Infogrames has gone
on record as stating that they have NO interest in producing add-ons
for NASCAR Heat. And here we are producing an IRL add-on and a CART
add-on for NASCAR Heat, and it seems like there are a LOT of people
who are interested. People have even posted that they've bought
NASCAR Heat just for the CART add-on. [Note to Hasbro/Infogrames:
Drop me an e-mail so I can give you a forwarding address for the
royalty checks.]
Not only is Papyrus not paying attention -- neither is anybody else.
So, like I said, SOMEBODY has to light the fires under corporate
America.

I've not found it. May you post the exact tlink please?
Of course I agree, but it's still not more legal. Should we care? Probably
more when it's a total convertion. 99% of the painted cars for various
racing sims are illegal, like about every track. Nobody cares, still.
Daytona cared back in the days. But a big thing like a full CART title
would surely attract something by CART. Or by Midway. They should take
this very carefully.
How do you know? You DON'T know. Papyrus still has a license until the end
of the year, according to their old press release.
