On a 166 w 64MB!!!!!!!!!!
You can turn off all the GPL graphics options, but the game then looks
like a 15 year game with blocky graphics. And its still slow. I have
tried this on a Pentium II 233MHz with 64MB and a Viper 330. Unless you
have 3dfx or Rendition, avoid GPL.

Unfortunately, the game development community considers a P166
"outdated". However, I have a P166 with 32mb Ram and Canopus Pure 3D, and
GPL plays pretty smooth, with all details on.
Hey rr...sounds like he's another one of the RIVA camp, that complaign cuz
all the other proprietary (read, faster and cooler) api's (or whatever they
are properly called) don't run on his RIVA. Hmmm I've played some pretty
dang good D3d titles on my Rendition V2100, and also have the benefit of
all the Rendition titles...don't hear too many 3dfx or Rendition owners
yelling for D3d support..

JT!
is your motherboard capable of 'CACHEING" more than 64 megs. Many
versions of Intel's mb chipsets actually SLOWDOWN when running more than
64 megs, regardless of your M3d. I'd look into your specs...

(i'm running a p200mmx with 32megs of edo and get 800x600 running very
smooth. in Rendition mode with a Diamond Stealth II{V2100}[99$us] and if
you can't tell I'm pretty pleased with it...) Oh yeah, not overclocked
either.

On my Dell 266PII w 64 meg sdram it runs sluggish, unfortunatly for both Papy
and I. When the release edition comes out I won't buy it if it dosen't support
the D3D mode. I have the STB 128 AGP card and hope that the release ver will
support both D3D and AGP. Same goes for N3 if and whenever that comes into
being...

Do you have a 3dfx card?
I have a p-200 with 128megs of RAM and a Monster3D video card and GPL
runs like total S#&T......
Normally my computer has no problems with games but it does not like
GPL at all.
I'd say I get frame rates b/t 5-12 fps, regardless of how many options
I turn off.....
Yet some people with P-200s and even less processing power claim to
get great frame rates????
All we can hope for is that these inconsistencies between machine will
be resolved as this BETA goes through it's stages of development.....
Other than the horrible frame rates the game looks great!!!!

On last news, Papyrus don't have plans to support any other accelerator than
Glide and Rendition. Since I have the SAME pc as yours, I would recommend
buying a second video card. A Diamond Stealth II can be bought pretty
cheap !
So no OpenGL or D3D support. It's the life, man ! Welcome the year 1998,
where no game product can support EVERY card on the market.
And not buying a game because you want your card to be able to run the
accelerated more is a little bit cry-baby IMHO. (I would love an OpenGL
version of GPL, but it will never appear probably).
Oh and what's a support for AGP ?!?!? lolol

I'm not sure what you mean but I upgraded for N2 and CART. Now that system
seems to run the demo of GPL just fine.

didnt papy say they would make great measures to try and not make the user
upgrade thier computer for n3 or gpl? contradiction? u tell me
The only question is how far "back in time" a game developer goes to
permit the game to run on obsolete hardware (by dropping graphics,
sound effects, reducing cars drawn, etc.). So, by dropping graphics
and reducing frame size you might be able to get it to run acceptably
on obsolete hardware. But if you can't, decide between upgrading or
forgoing the game. Don't expect the world to stand still for you.

Case in point, being a F1RS fan, I decided to try the years old
F1GP/World Circuit from Microprose, as I remember that title was great
years ago. Oh my, did I really think at some point that THOSE graphics
are great??? The physics model is laughably simple too compared to
about any new driving sim, especially F1RS and (of course) GPL.
I don't expect getting a racing sim of GPL caliber on a fast 486
machine, or even a medium range Pentium machine without any
3D accelerator. You can only use 100% of the available power, so don't
expect miracles if the best games now would use even only 70-80% of
the power of your machine.
