Real CART and Papy's CART

I just watched the Long Beach CART. What a great race!!

And today I also practiced the CART by Paryrys (=ICR2).
Am I wrong, but to me it occurs that the game (or sim?) is much
too lazy or perhaps better said, NOT nervous ENOUGH compared to the
real thing!?

In the game you have to slow down earlier before the turns compared
to the real thing? Etc...
(And I guess I've got good advice from the net how to set up the car
and the game properly...)

In my experience GP2 models this nervousness of driving (of F1 in
this case) much better than Papy's CART. Perhaps Papy has concentrated
more on ovals? (These  appear much more calm and lazy to me ...)

Is this just my imagination, or does somebody share my experience?

What you describe is exactly why I like CPR. The sense of speed (something I
just posted about here on r.a.s. the other day) is excellent and I feel like
I'm driving an extremely powerful machine. I get a little nervous and feel
like I'm pushing the car to the limit trying to match the real life times
you saw today. I don't get this feeling in F1RS for example. The cars seem a
little too easy to handle. Watching the race today, I was impressed by how
much of what I see in CPR resembled what was really happening on the track.
In case anyone's wondering, no, I don't for a second think I could drive a
real Champ car like I can a sim car.  :-)

I saw that too.  Michael Andretti seemed to be working very hard
controlling his car during braking.  remember tho...that CART/ICR2 is
several years old  and may not resemble the current generation of CHAMP
cars....and if you want nervousness, just widen you steering angle, then
you'll be*** on for dear life.

Papyrus' CART Racing was modeled after the 1995 CART season when the cars had
more downforce and more boost than they do today.  The Long Beach track in ICR2
is 1.590 mi like it was in '95.  In '97, they changed t1 a little bit to make
it 1.586 mi and I guess they slightly altered it again because the Omega Timing
reports say that the track is 1.574 mi this year.

Perhaps you do not have enough downforce.  You can brake quite late for 1
and 7.  You have to carry the brake into the corner.  Turn 4 can be taken
quite fast if you turn in early and let the car push past the wall.

Trail-braking is the only way to go fast around Long Beach.  My best is
sub 51s laps (50.766s to be exact), although I am more consistently in the
low 51's.

Perhaps your shocks are too soft.  Try 100% on all corners and see what
that does.  This track requires an oversteering car and it can be quite
nervous when braking and accelerating.

IMO GP2 feels much more "nervous" simply because you can't adjust the
steering ratio for each track.  This usually leaves you with steering that
is far too quick for many of the tracks.
If you want a Champ Car that's more "twitchy," simply make your steering
faster.  You'll be sawing your hands back and forth plenty.
