Will Stallone's CART movie be an incentive to make a good CART simulator?

Hi everybody!

I've just read news that Sly instead of F1 movie will do CART movie. If this
movie will turn out to be a success and bring more attention to this sport,
developers may find it to be a wise idea to make a new, decent CART racing
simulator. Of course I hope that this developer's name will be Papyrus; CART
simulator with GPL engine - I love this idea!. Is it possible or I'm just
dreaming?

Greetings

There's already a cart simulator due for release next month, let's hope it's
a good one! Screenshots look promising (for what it's worth...).

The original poster is referring to Cart (Champ Car racing) not Kart (as in
go-kart).

You surprise me about Stallone covering CART and not F1.  Was his year spent
following the F1 circus round the world just an excuse to get into all the
Grand Prixs free at Bernie Ecclestones expense?  Will he now follow CART
around for 2000?

CART has a limited marked worldwide due to TV coverage.  In Europe CART is
covered only by satellite broadcasters (Eurosport) as a rule, so doesn't
have a huge TV market, whereas as most countries have a terrestrial deal to
broadcast F1.  I would say this is also true for Asia (except Japan) and
Africa where F1 is broadcast more than F1.
A CART movie would therefore be of interest to movie goers with an interest
in motor racing in the States and the few motor racing nuts such as myself
in the rest of the world (after all The Italian Job was such a great movie
'cos of the Minis in it!).
Why did Stallone abandon his excellent idea of dramatising F1 and the all
the glamour (drivers from all over the world, Monaco, etc.) in favour of
covering CART which doesn't even have Indy anymore?  I'm not putting CART
down 'cos I think its an excellent motorsport, but it has a limited market
being effectively an American Series!

To answer your question, a game with a film endor***t may be a
possibility!

If I read right on the speedvision web site, Stallone and Ecclestone couldn't
work out all of the details for what would be in the movie, so Sly had to s***
F1 and go with CART for his film.  If the script is decent, it'll do well; if
the script is trash, it'll still make money off the people going to see any
Stallone film.  I can only hope for a new CART sim.

From seventhgear.com: http://www.seventhgear.com/Mcartic034.htm

"Stallone said he will star as the old retired hero who comes back to coach
the young star race driver who is bold, brash, fast, but things are not
going his way.  Like his Rocky movies, Stallone said the film will be about
people, their fears, desires, emotions, trials, and tribulations.  Boxing
just happened to be his occupation.  He has done an enormous amount of
research for this project already for his previously announced F-1 movie.
However, he stated Bernie Eccelstone had his own agenda which did not match
his, so the deal was cancelled.

He went on to say that was the best thing that could have happened, as he
did not realize that CART and its series was really much more about people
and family than F-1, and fits into the storyline better."

CART needs as much publicity as it can get......My guess is that CART
offered to put up some of the money........Michigan in car shots on a 100 ft
cinema screen will be cool.....

No joy as to the CART sim.......Midway have exclusive (DOH!) rights to
produce arcade and home versions of a cart game/sim.....but i read on the
cart web site that they ' Plan to defy the laws of physics in making an
exhilerating racing game....'..........or words to that effect.....check out
the cart.com web site......:(

As reported by www.autosport.com :
[qoute]
Sylvester Stallone's much touted racing film is going ahead in conjunction
with the CART Champ Car series as its backdrop.
Stallone, who has spent more than two years visiting Grands Prix for
research, made the announcement at CART's pre season testing at Homestead.

"I apologise to fans of Formula 1," said the former Rocky actor, "but there
is a certain individual there who runs the sport that has his own agenda.

"F1 is very formal, and it's very hard to get to know people. Here in CART
it is much more open and that will be reflected in the film. "  [/qoute]

I guess the middle part says it all... dosn't it :-)

Bernie.... go suck a brick!

If they do a sim based on the movie, won't they have to
license the title etc...  Think hard, name any sim/game besides
tne last two James Bond games that are based on a movie that
were quality titles.  If you spend money buying a movie title,
you can't use that money for development, and what we would get
would be Test Drive 23 the Stallone Champ Car....
I am not opptimistic

That's probably the idea - he can now spend a year in the CART pits!

In 2001 - NASCAR!
